Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
For the 5 billionth time, the fact the rate of infection among people who are vaccinated or boosted is lower but not zero does not mean vaccines and boosters don’t prevent Covid. Stop being ignorant of how to interpret data and research. |
|
PG just said they will reinstate masks in schools and I’m sure mcps is taking notes and won’t be far behind.

For how long? School doesn’t start for 2 weeks, and it doesn’t seem to say it will be in effect indefinitely. Does it? |
|
rates are lower now than they were in mask-optional spring 2022. would make zero sense to reinsitute mandate
|
I just saw this also. Why is PG County doing this now? Are there specific metrics that PGPS is following to justify a mask mandate. I agree that MCPS often follows what DC or PG County does. I see masks again in our future (which I think is ridiculous!). |
True. Who needs bus drivers, teachers, cafeteria staff. They aren't needed. Subs can handle everything. Summer school went so well without teachers and bus drivers, why not fall? |
We stayed open all last spring, so. |
Yes, such a proud accomplishment to infect over 9% of the student body and over 2100 teachers and staff. MCPS Central Office hit a new low of how to treat their classroom workers and support. Clown. |
When kids make all the subs sick, then parents can step in and volunteer. |
Stop with the name calling. This is a new variant that is far more contegous. |
Right. And the case rate we’re seeing now is simply the basic, endemic rate. Masking would be pointless. |
We can only hope this will happen for the sake of our children and the broader community. The dominant variant is something like 6X more transmissible than the original one, and roughly 10% of those who get COVID end up with long COVID issues. We really should be taking this far more seriously. |
| Well it is Montgomery County where common sense and risk assessment does not exist. I’d say its 50/50. |
Not according to the CDC, "In indoor public settings, surgical masks reduce the chances of testing positive by 66 percent". https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2022/02/04/covid-mask-effective-n95/ |
I hope so |
