They arrived legally and are in the US legally. And they're probably thrilled to get out of Texas - I know the first buses, at least, were full of volunteers. There are many humanitarian issues with the situation but they're not here illegally.

People cross the border and are allowed to stay until their case can be sorted out which can be years. They are free to travel anywhere. Must connect with family or existing contacts. This is nothing new. Many continue to other places from DC.

I walked past it last week. There was a long line. Everyone looked like a commuter or tourist. Looked like it always did pre-Covid. I would think with so many shops closed, the remaining ones are doing well. I assume it could be very different late at night though.

It wasn’t that long ago that DC had plans to make Union Station a real retail destination. It’s just so sad to see how it’s deteriorated. And it’s not like other areas in DC are so inviting - double shooting tonight at the Wharf, for example.

There used to be more crime in DC but it was concentrated in the bad neighborhoods. Now it’s just everywhere and so unpredictable.

The Texas buses of undocumented immigrants are absolutely dropping at Union station. I don't know how many, but Montgomery County is taking a lot of them and feels overwhelmed. Not sure who else is helping. It's a nightmare.
