Union Station Starbucks Closing

They are closing it on 31st due to safety issues. I don't even like Starbucks but its sad when a business has to close because of criminal elements and safety issues.

Yes, we are regressing to the 90s.

Isn’t there some suspicion Starbucks is closing locations that have attempted to unionize?

Yes, but there are also legit safety issues in the locations they've picked. I don't even take the train to NY anymore because I don't want to deal with Union Station, especially at night.

This one is not trying to form a Union. Everyone is going to try to argue there’s some other reason for the closure, but truly, Union station is not safe.

They decided at a national level that they would let people loiter in the store and use their bathroom even if they were not a customer, after a manager was called racist for net letting a black guy use the restroom.

All the closures are in cities with terrible homelessness problems

The movie theaters closed years ago because of violence. Soon the station will be empty. Enforcing the law means recognizing there’s a problem.

Union Station has become a complete hellhole. Go try to take a train out at 7:00 one morning and come back to report to us on the experience.

Pandemic casualty unfortunately. There has long been a large homeless population there but it was still a bustling thoroughfare for commuters, tourists, and travelers alike. I used to take the metro there every day for work but no longer and it really is giving off some unsettling vibes now.

I work nearby and just started going to the office again. I take the Marc train. I was curious to see union station after seeing so many comments here. I was surprised. Yes about 1/3 of the stores are gone and many seats are gone but I saw no homeless people. Felt totally safe. Long line at Starbucks and other food places were busy. I use it as a cool spot to get steps in the summer and will continue to.

Same here … I work nearby and take the metro most days … and often grab lunch there. Not sure what the snowflakes are concerned about.

I work in Union Station if you say you saw no homeless people it's because you probably don't realize they are. It's actually very dangerous more so for the mentally I'll and actual homeless than for travelers anyway. There is such a duality to what's actually happening at Union Station I think many of you would be appalled if you actually knew what was happening there.
Google migrants bust to Union Station… Buses have been coming in twice per week filled with hungry people who have no idea of the next steps… Church groups and the Red Cross have been servicing whole families in the right lower restaurant level of union station… Some days it just makes me wanna cry

Exactly. It's fast resembling a refugee camp. Cannot believe this has happened in just the last 2 years.
