She has taken several times already and is getting burned out on retakes.

Op, I say this as an engineer but engineering is hard. Some would even say it's very hard. If your daughter's top test score is 32, I'd select a school that offers variety of majors in case she changes her mind. Most kids usually change majors anyway. Don't be single focused.

Looking for: in or near a city, mid-sized, preferably not in the Midwest.
3.9 UW GPA at private school, moderately rigorous courses, 32 ACT (may apply TO)
No hooks

Possible candidates: Northeastern, U of Miami, Villanova, BU, BC, Wake Forest, Lehigh, LMU, USC, Santa Clara

Any feedback or other ideas?

NU engineering is super tough to get into - always has been, just be forewarned, OP.

Good to know. Is it better to apply undecided and then switch into engineering? Would ED help if she really likes it?

Not sure, since they might want a kid that is more focused, and she would have to be a super strong candidate to get into the program. ED is not a boost anymore, because everyone applies ED. Read up on their engineering program for more recent info than I may have.

Thanks, that is good advice!

Great schools but just not for Engineering.

USC > Northeastern > BU > Lehigh = Villanova > Miami > LMU = Santa Clara

BC and Wake have new engineering programs that look interesting although it would be a risk since they are new and not accredited.

Wake engineering is being accredited as we speak since they just graduated the first cohort.

Northwestern (NU) is not Northeastern (NEU). Their marketing is confusing.

NU

Use only in the following contexts: social media icons, student groups, and informal correspondence. Never use NEU, which is an outdated abbreviation.

Northwestern parent? So confusing. NU is Northwestern. For a long time. That's why people use NEU for Northeastern.

no, https://www.nu.edu/

They may be trying to change to NU from NEU, but ask most people who are familiar with Top 50 universities, and NU is Northwestern.

Northeastern has been NU since at least the 70's. But let's not make this thread about that, shall we? Since it is obviously one of the schools that DCUM likes to go off on.

Not in a national sense. It would just make it easier if people used something else because everyone associates NU with Northwestern.

Caltech, MIT, Columbia, Dartmouth dual degree programs with liberal arts schools are all competitive and expensive.

Paying 2 years at Columbia better than paying for four

Except the 2 yrs at SUNY looks like 2 years at CC. They probably gave out As like candy.

NOT TRUE. Many of the SUNY schools are excellent.

in a natioanl sense, general public don't give a shit about colleges and its names.
We had 20 Johns in my high school.
Use it in a context and it'll be fine.
NU = Northeatsern in this thread and context.

Since National University has the domain nu.edu
Northwestern should pick a differnet name not to confuse the mass general public.
First thing peole would do to learn about a college is to go to the site.
When people go to NU.edu it's Natioanl Universtiy.
Northwetern is confusing general public by calling itself NU.
They should change it to something like NWU
