Cornell is an “Ivy”, but Chicago is obviously more prestigious. Not sure why folks are stuck on participation in an athletic conference. |
There is no STA 22 Instagram so I don’t know what you are looking at. Bottom line, these kids did incredibly well this year from all DC privates. |
no. Ivy is Ivy. Many lists Cornell out ranks. Anyway different kind of kids--go to college board you will see. |
Potomac has about 10-15 percent of the class every year with probably half being hooked (recruited athlete, URM, or Legacy). |
Disagree--GDS is now the strongest in the area. My kids went to another top private and are all at ivy but looking at things closely, I would say GDS has eclipsed Sidwell. All three (GDS, Sidwell, NCS/STA) do very well but as people have said on this board numerous times--it is legacies, recruited athletes, and URMS (who's parents are ex-administration, and legacy, and full pay--partners at law firms, etc.). |

It is six of one, half dozen of the other. These schools are all pretty comparable.
|
Ivy admissions deans all know GDS for its stellar teaching, incredible applicants, and decades-long commitment to social justice. GDS was woke before it became a thing. |
While the academics historically have been comparable among the top privates, I do feel they GDS has pulled away. No other Big 3 comes close to GDS in its focus on social justice. |
I'm not sure exactly where things stand on the college matriculation end, but on the middle and high school admissions end, GDS is absolutely, positively the toughest admit. It's nuts. |
Ivies have been so crazy woke and GDS is the same. A bit too out there. And I say that as a liberal. |
GDS seems to have become the “it” school. It is not difficult to envision in a few years that President Kamala Harris might be cheering on her grandchildren and VP Pete Buttigieg applauding for his kids from the GDS soccer field sidelines or while watching a GDS performance. That would be amazing! |
With a far left shift in modern politics and the overall environment, schools that have historically touted equality like GDS perform greatly while traditionally conservative, religious schools like STA suffer the most. Not to mention that in this day and age with colleges, female URMs are the greatest hook one can have, while being a white affluent male hinders you the most. l |
You might postulate this but it didn't happen this year at all. STA is sending 20%+ of the class to the Ivies and most are not hooked. Plus an additional dozen boys to Chicago. |
Here’s a college admission strategy: white make applicants should write that they self identify as URM females and are transitioning. Then say they’ve reconsidered as admitted freshmen. LOL |
+1, out of 80 kids usually around the top 20 kids go to ivys and the next 15 go to chicago. Absurd numbers. There’s certainly a threshold that STA students clear in which if you meet the minimum criteria you are admitted to uchicago. |
