We tell him not to throw all the time!! OP here. And I’m the only parent in this class involved and not sitting on the sidelines and I still couldn’t catch the toys before they were thrown.

Telling him is not enough. At 3.5 there needs to be consequences and removal from the situation especially since he's doing this repeatedly.

Yeah I mean Duh! come on he is a little kid you have to physically step in and not stand around say oh sweetie we don’t throw! Those are pretty big items to be throwing around. Maybe classes aren’t a good choice right now

Simple.
Warn him that if he throws, he'll have to sit out the class and watch.
Then enforce it.
A 3.5 year old knows what is going on and that you let him throw without consequences. Nip it in the bud cuz this kid will continue to tool you.

BTDT. Intervene earlier. Don’t let it get to the point where he is able to throw.

You have gotten some good advice here.

I am going to tell you something else, though - you really, really need a thicker skin if this is something that bothers you. People are going to judge you and your parenting and your kid from now on- - sometime it will be legit, sometimes it won't, never will others have the same level of context as you. Take it ALL with a grain of salt

PS I am the mother of 4 girls and wonder if this grandmother has a girl? Just a random thought.
