You can buy gluten free spy sauce at the grocery store.
You can also buy dairy free mostly allergy.free chocolate chips, though they are expensive. "Enjoy life" brand. |
Wegmans uses gf soy sauce. I’m hyper careful about cross contamination and have never gotten sick there. I’m guessing the crisped rice is gf as well. Yes some have barley malt in them, but not all do. I don’t like California rolls (princess because I was avoiding the mock crab other places) so haven’t checked on the validity of their claims. But they do say it’s all gf. I’m guessing they’ve found alternatives. All of the labeling is clear. If it was elsewhere I’d agree though. I’ve been gluten-free for about 15 years so I’m pretty good with checking ingredient labels on everything even if it claims it’s gluten-free. Will also check gluten-free watched dog in regards to Wegmans. |

FWIW
This is the mock crab in Wegmans California rolls. It’s one of the only gf brands. https://shop.wegmans.com/product/15091/trans-ocean-crab-classic-leg-style |

I was on a gluten free diet for a while. Just think rice, corn, oats, and potatoes, and eggs. Some things that helped me:
If there’s a good gluten-free bread, I never found it. White corn tortillas are softer than yellow corn tortillas. I used them in place if bread for sandwich type foods (either folded up like a taco, or used as a wrap - depending on filling). I also used the white corn tortillas as a pizza crust substitute. I found it worked best to stack my “pizzas” like lasagna. Typically, I would layer 3-4 layers of tortilla, pizza/pasta sauce, crumbled bacon, black olives, parmesan and/or mozzarella cheese, microwave it until heated through and cheese melted, and then eat it with a fork. Most Chex cereals (check the labels to be sure) are gluten free. I found that the chocolate ones are a nice sweet treat, and I might use the peanut ones for a snack, of like a “cobbler base” with fruit, whipped cream, etc. Milton’s crackers (as always, check the labels), were one of the few specifically gluten-free snacks I liked. I also enjoyed white cheddar popcorn and Doritos. You can get gluten free terriyaki and soy sauces (I like Kikkoman). I think Boar’s Head lunch meat is all supposed to be gluten-free, but you’d need to check and make sure. |
