Didn’t work for my hair either.

Me, either. I have fine thin hair though so I don’t think there is much hope for me. Does the revlon hair dryer tend to work better for women with thick hair?

I have fine, thin hair and it works really well for me! I only use it for a minute after mostly air drying, so maybe that helps?

I have medium thick straight hair and it didn't work for me. My specific issue was that I couldn't get it very close to my scalp so my roots would be damp and the rest of my hair dry. It was too hot to leave in too long and my roots wouldn't dry. So I ended up with very flat, no volume straight as a pin hair when I already have straight hair. I like a little bend in my hair and the oval shape seemed to make sure that didn't happen. I have far better results drying with a regular large barrel round brush. I gave it away to a curly haired friend.

I'm a PP who didn't have luck with the Revlon dryer, but I do love that NYT schawarma.

I have medium thick wavy hair and I love the Revlon hair dryer. I do you use living proof heat protectant spray with it every time and I only wash and dry my hair every other day.

I agree. One of these days I will try it again and try to jazz it up. I feel like the recipe has good bones but isn’t quite there

Did you get the ones with the cover photos where he looks like a sadist? Gave me nightmares in college.

Umm, it is just one huge tome of his collected works. The cover has an obfuscated view of his face wearing John Lennon glasses and an intellectual vibe in sepia tones. Ukrainian Russian Jews experienced so much sorrow and loss during that era, that I would be hard pressed to smile myself.

It is very sad he was murdered as an enemy of the state by Stalin’s fascist death squads. Reading about that will give me nightmares.

I love Babel, but I first read him in Russian. I think you need to have some context to understand what he is writing about, and also some of his very distinct style is getting lost in translation. Imagine someone writing with a Southern drawl - it's more than an accent, it conveys a certain way of life which will be hard to understand for someone who doesn't know much about US.

Taking any advice from this site seriously. I mainly use this site to laugh at how people think.

Same, it fried my hair and it's so loud!

Yeah, I agree, these did not work for me.

+1. Very boring and bland even upping the spices.

.

Thanks - that helps. Once I can get on his wavelength, I do hope to appreciate his stories of ordinary Ukrainians in that era, which was my goal. First I am reading more modern Ukrainian books that are easier to relate to. It will take time. Babel has excellent reviews on good reads from many people, and that does not happen by accident.

It makes me so sad that what he went through (imperialist fascism targeting Ukrainian Jewish writers and intellectuals) continues in even harsher and broader ways.

I use this recipe as a base, but double the turmeric.

I have thin, limp hair and it does nothing for me. Sadly.

I do think it’s user error for those who think it’s bland. Almost all recipes are lowest common denominator as written. I never follow any recipe to the letter — I just assume the “[spice] to taste” is implied. Anything calling for garlic should be at least doubled.
