Well, things just got a little more interesting. Two new candidates filed today:
Michael Fryar for the at-large seat Dawn Iannaco-Hahn for the District 5 seat Which means both races now have three candidates apiece and so will appear on the primary ballot in June. The current slate: At-large: Michael Fryar J. Domenic Giandomenico Karla Silvestre (incumbent) District 1: Jay Guan [Incumbent Judy Docca has not yet filed] District 3: Scott Joftus (incumbent) Julie Yang District 5: Valerie M. Coll Dawn Iannaco-Hahn Brenda Wolff (incumbent) |

| I would like bd to send silvestre packing. She met with my friends and didn’t care that their son is immunocompromised and took away masks |
Oh good lord. This new at-large candidate, Michael Fryer, sounds like a complete nut job. His website is entitled, “Wasted Genius”
https://michaelfryar.com/ |
He ran in 2020 against Rebecca Smondrowski. She won with 59% of the vote to his 40%. |
I'm using the Apple ballot as a guide too. To know who NOT to vote for. |
That is bonkers. He’s a Trump-supporting republican. Who is bragging about his SAT score. From like, 30 years ago. Sounds like a very stable genius to me… ugh. |
He's one of those guys that thinks he smarter and funnier than he really is and just comes off as awkward and uncomfortable. But....I'll still vote for him. |
WHY? |
First. Accountability for the current members. And second, read his bio. Read it with an open mind. It's not like he's completely unqualified. In fact, he's probably MORE qualified than some people on the board today. Ultimately, at the end of the day, he will be on the right side of history, as someone that advocated to open schools. |
| If you are anti-incumbent, why Fryar over Giandomenico? |
That's a good question. And part of me wants to answer that the old bay website precludes me from voting for him. But part of it is that he feels like more of the same, or, to be blunt and maybe insensitive, I think he'll prioritize the needs of his special needs kids over the greater needs of the community. He basically even said that on Twitter in the recent mask debate. He said, I think my daughter needs them to stay protected, so i would vote to keep the mandate. As a parent he's certainly allowed to feel that way, but tbh, I didn't love the way he framed it. And at the end of the day, I don't think he has any shot at winning. Fryar might actually have a shot |
| Is Docca actually retiring? Seems like she would have filed for reelection by now. |
