Trump fuelled anti Asian hate on Twitter and that might have contributed to the increase in anti Asian hate crimes nationally, including murder.

TJ wanting more black and hispanic kids is nothing in comparison.

You can tell opinions vs. facts, can't you? Or are you just intentionally playing obtuse?
TJ's racist reform is a FACT. And liberal's support for the racist Affirmative Action is a FACT.

You don't understand the meaning of the word 'racist' and are using it inappropriately. It should only be used when deliberate action is being taken to deny someone the same opportunities as others have based on the color of their skin. That is not happening at TJ.

isn't this exactly what TJ reform is all about? Are you this naive or just obtuse?

No action is being taken to deliberately reduce the population of students of Asian descent at TJ. The action being taken is to help others who haven't had the same opportunities, and the reduction in the number of those of Asian descent is a byproduct of that action. I don't understand how you are missing this. No one is deliberately trying to get rid of Asian students at TJ.

We’re white people also under served then? Otherwise, why was the white student number increased as a result of the TJ reform? Is that also a byproduct?

Do you want to go by representation at TJ vs. percentage of the FCPS population? Every group other than Asian is massively underrepresented at TJ

Why do you go by representation if you claim race wasn’t the motivation?

+1000 and I'll copy-paste it again so others can re-read it multiple times to understand the basic math of a zero-sum situation. Go read the Wikipedia article.

That’s a BS argument without all the evidence against it.

The thought-process is not: "TJ has too many Asians, let's begin to prohibit so many Asians from getting accepted"

The thought-process is: "Under-represented and poverty-stricken minorities don't go to TJ, let's use a holistic approach to accept more URM"

You can disagree with the academic repercussions of this, but I bet you'll be in favor of your kids getting a holistic admissions process when they apply to their #1 college choice.

This was exactly the thought process for TJ reform. Where were those liberals when TJ was majority white?

Is White also considered as URM these days?

I will yield to that. This entire TJ scandal is only because of the recent shift to focus on political correctness with things like school renaming and equity. But, I will continue to assert that this is not a case of deliberate racism against Asians. Look at the perception of black and Hispanic communities and there you will find real racism.

Do you realize the immense hypocrisy of your perspective? African-Americans have been systematically put down for the majority of America's history, and now you are saying that policies to help them succeed must mean that you are being put down.

Putting dumb kids into programs for smart kids is not the best way to help the black race

There is no race, idiot. It’s a social construct. Additionally, PP said African Americans you racist mouth breather

Wow, saying the word "black" is racist to you while supporting the racist anti-Asian policies is okay with you? What a clown!

They were trying to change it then, too. They've been trying to change it long before the rise of the Asian population in Fairfax County. They made adjustments in the past--it just didn't work out the way they were hoping. I think initially it was just a test. Then, teacher recommendations, etc.etc. Sp, as long is it as test reliant it won't work so well.

Also, did they ever consider that maybe everyone does not want to attend TJ? I'm not sure a lot of the "correct" minority even applied.

Repeating oneself does not make a statement any more persuasive.

FCPS pitted one community against another and effectively demanded that Asian families agree to reduced opportunities to benefit other students who, objectively, were not working as hard or successfully to achieve their goals, but yet are deemed to need a boost as a result of past events for which those Asian families are not responsible. And, in order to accomplish that goal, FCPS leadership and School Board members at times made statements that were affirmatively demeaning of Asian families and their values.

That's never going to go down well, nor should it.

Also wish Hannah would look into the TERRIBLE way that the admissions office is allowing parents to self-classify their child as low income. After reading the TJ papers and seeing that the economically disadvantaged designation is 90 points (twice as much as ELL!), I can see why many families are taking advantage of the “free meals for all” loophole. I’ve contacted several school board members and everyone seems just fine with letting anyone get this admissions bump. (Cracking down to make the press release not a rosy.) It really should be reserved for children that would qualify for free meals under normal circumstances.

I was not aware of this. But, SB is likely fine with it--obvious from the texts, etc, that optics is what counts. If they can say they are getting more low income kids, then that is fine with them-true or not.

I actually called and confirmed this. Yes, the TJ admissions office is aware of this issue, but is allowing ANY parent to check yes to the free meals questions this year and become designated as Economically Disadvantaged. They “hope” that parents however will answer based of what would be the case in a normal year.

This is ALL optics. They only care about pretending they are helping low income children, but aren’t willing to do the hard work to actually do so. Worse, they’ve created this twisted situation that is divorced from reality and penalizes honest families.

Why can’t FCPS build another TJ? Or like, 10 more TJs? We are one of the richest and most educated counties in the country. Surely we can make it happen?
