And, not one Democrat has made the case why the US needs to pass a "voting rights" bill. |
And polling stations in rural areas almost always require having a ride to get there. What about the elderly who might not drive any more due to impaired vision or other health issues? Thus the need for alternatives like absentee ballots. Thus the need to not demonize those who would try to help let them cast their votes as is their right. |
You aren't paying attention. NUMEROUS examples have been given in this thread as to why access to voting needs to be protected. But there haven't been any REAL examples given of why voting needs to be further restricted. |
Water is allowed. In fact, self serve water fountains MUST be provided. They just don’t want people mixing with people in line and giving out things because it can influence them to vote one way or the other. That’s a very sensible rule. Stop the lie that people don’t have access to water. |
If allowing people to vote puts Democrats in power forever then all that means is that people want to vote for Democrats. Novel idea: Instead of being bastards and trying to cheat people out of their vote, maybe you should work on a better platform and better reasons why people would want to vote for Republicans. |
And there you go again nattering on about the water when the same bill allows the state legislature to supersede the authority of county election boards, and removed the popularly elected Secretary of State from an elections role and replaced him/her with someone appointed by the state legislature. |
+1 or any platform at all, really, since you don’t have one. Your only plans are the ones like Eastman’s, which involved rejecting dozens of already certified electoral votes representing tens of millions of legally cast ballots to put the guy you liked in charge. That’s the amount of respect you have for votes. |
A lot of good those self serve water fountains do when you're stuck standing for hours OUTSIDE of the polling station where the water fountains are. And TBH the water isn't even the problem. It's the standing for hours waiting. That's why they need to improve the ways by which one can cast a ballot. Plus, with the water, a case of 40 bottles of water is not even $4 at Costco. Do you seriously want us to believe that someone is going to completely change their political values and who they vote for in exchange for a $0.10 bottle of water? I don't. But if you still do, then maybe instead of worrying about the "undue influence" of a paltry $0.10 bottle of water you should instead focus on policies oriented toward treating them better and paying them more in the first place. |
Question for the OP... As a "rational conservative" you DO know that "ThERe WuZ MaSSIvE FrAUd! ThEY StOLe tHE EleCtIOn fROm TrUMp!!" was a lie, right?
And you do know that the spate of state laws making it harder to vote were based on that lie, right? |
JFC, I was mocking the “rational” conservative asking why he/she should give a shit whether black and brown people are disenfranchised by conservative state and local governments. Conservatives are not entitled to special rights or vetoes over the rights of others. Get over yourselves and be decent citizens. |
Voting for citizens should be as easy and convenient as possible. Everyone should be granted time off from work to vote. I believe voting days should be national holidays. It's also more important to vote in local elections because it impacts you more. Polling places should be secure and near your home.
Last year polling places were closed in minority communities where constituents have no access to transportation. Long lines to vote discourage people who are poor from voting because they can't afford to spend so much time away from work. I believe elections should be secure and ID should be required. Ids shouldn't have so many regulatory hurdles to to get. A free id card should be given to every citizen of a state upon reaching 18. A driver's license is different. I think your constitutional right to vote shouldn't be taken away for petty offenses. There are some offenses against humanity and the state that are worthy of losing your right to vote. Voting is very important and should be protected. This county has a history of bombing polling places to prevent minorities from voting. There has also been disenfranchisement of women. |
[Gov. George C. Wallace:] I don’t think they had, had, had to lose anything. They have always been—there’s a region of the country that did not like strong national simple government. And it was an exercise of that feeling that the Federal Government is taking us over and swallowing us up and becoming our master instead of our servant. That was what they thought they were losing. They didn’t—the segregation issue was one of those things that was latched upon as the usurpation of authority, but we were going to do it ourselves, but they wanted to do it themselves. And today, isn’t that what everybody says, they run for Congress in Pennsylvania and New York, California. I am for more rights for California not the Federal Government taking over and writing all the guidelines. That’s what everybody says now. That’s what Reagan got elected by one of the biggest votes anybody ever elected by saying those very same things I said way back yonder when I ran for the Presidency myself and when I got shot. http://repository.wustl.edu/concern/videos/8049g721j |
Democrats have been losing state races the last 10 years in key states and this is just sour grapes not that maps are about to redrawn. The hyperbole is ridiculous and just for headlines. |
