Apparently there is a youtube video warning about this. Good luck OP--maybe if this is what happened to your son, they will restore his items.

NP and this is awful. I’m searching.

This evening, he was on Roblox and someone offered him an item as a possible trade. When he went to look at it, somehow the other trader managed to get ALL of his Roblox items worth 65,000 Robux (about $900) in the real world.

This represents almost a year of trading and investing birthday, Christmas, and allowance money in Roblox.

We reported it as a hack. They wrote back that it wasn't hacked, and said there's nothing they could do about legitimate trades. This was not a legitimate trade, but neither my son nor I understand how it happened.

Does anyone know what could have happened? Is this a bug, a scam, WTH?

How can I help my son get his items back when Roblox is calling multiple items worth 65,000 Robux being traded for 1,000 Robux as a "legitimate trade." The other use just set up an account on December 20 and has no followers and no friends, which is why I think it's a scam account.

Please, no snarky comments. Please help if you can.

this same thing happened to my daughter last year. She also went to bed crying. I made her take a break from the game and then after a few week, she went back to it and was just a lot more careful.

02:52 - I do the same with my 10 yr old. We turn off the chat function and he isn't allowed to accept request from people he doesn't know. But quite honestly, my concern was not really scamming but more due to potential sickos on the platform.

Whether this is refundable depends on a couple of factors. First, ask your son two questions: Were you trading limited items directly from Roblox? Or playing a game on Roblox (such as "Adopt Me") where you lost your items?

If the former is true, then contact Roblox support with the description of a "bug" rather than a hack and hope for the best.

If the latter is true, then there is unfortunately almost nothing that you can do. Roblox (the company) has no jurisdiction over the community made games hosted on their platform. Your best bet is figuring out the developer of the game within Roblox that this bug/scam occurred in and contacting their support.

This. My son is also curious to know the outcome. He has also mentioned the same thing alone this line and really wanted to know which of the above it was. Could you let us know OP.

My son doesn’t play now but when he did, he could only connect with real friends or friends of friends (could give me a relationship verbally). Any trades had to be with those kids.

I’m sorry this happened to your DC. I hope Roblox ends up helping out. You just have to kick into a helpful customer service person.

You should contact Fox 5 or another station that does scammer/consumer protection stories. Watch how fast Roblox responds when a producer reaches out for comment.

Is this a bug? I ask because in early 2020, my DD was super brand new to Roblox and was playing with a classmate. Suddenly I get a call from the mom accusing my DD of stealing ALL of her stuff on Roblox! I immediately checked her account and she had absolutely nothing, and didn’t even know about trading. The mom was ready to burn my child at the stake for stealing. We never got to the bottom of it but now I wonder if it was a bug!

Seriously?
I'm sorry for OP's son, truly, but this is not newsworthy.

This is bizarre! We experienced something similar.

Not hip on Roblox lingo but, out of nowhere I’m getting a text from the mother of the friend telling me her son traded Super Rare Dragon and Really Unique Dinosaur with my son, and that they were pretty pricy to buy. I run up to DS and ask him if he can trade back these items and he has no idea, he wasn’t even in his tablet. We look to see if they are in his inventory and they aren’t, but this mom insisted her child traded them with my child. Seems like it could be some sort of bug that pretends to be a “friend”?

OP here.

Not sure what kind of bug it was, but my son reports that after he clicked to look at the item offered in trade, he made no further keystrokes but his items got taken anyway. I suspect there was some kind of hacking involved.

The user had no friends and four followers. He was banned the day after he scammed my son, so I suspect Roblox knew he was a scammer. However, they said my son’s account was not hacked.

The first three times I wrote to Roblox, they insisted that my son must have authorized the trade.

I kept writing - every day — attaching screenshots and noting why what they were saying was wrong.

After the 6th exchange, they restored my son’s items.

Lessons learned - Roblox customer service agents aren’t very bright nor do they read. Keep writing and complaining while keeping things polite.

I suspect eventually they figured out I was not going to stop writing them, and they decided it was cheaper to restore my son’s items than have customer service spend time responding.

Thanks to all the posters who tied to help.

I'm so glad he to his stuff back. This is why my daughter isn't allowed on Roblox.

Good for you OP!

Yes, polite but persistent is the name of the game with most customer service these days when many customer service reps are just following flowcharts on how to handle issues.
