| I still can't believe that 9 girls from the same DC prep school would all happen to enroll at some randon public university in South Carolina. |
Well, not that many or they would be represented in the common data set. |
Calm down friend. |
Give it a freaking rest. The reality is, they don't have spend their days scrutinizing the common data set and frankly, they don't even have to get As in high school. And they will still bypass your U of Chicago worker bee by age 30. It's just how life works in much of DC. |
| Was this last year? Isn't it too early for admissions decisions for the class of 2022? |
Just correcting the misconception that there are many, many kids like that at these schools. Sure, they will do fine with their family privilege and they focus on fun. No need to sugarcoat that they are stronger students than they actually are. These are not kids who could get into UChicago or wherever, and that's FINE. You don't need to paint this picture that they are rich, well-connected, fun-loving AND academic superstars. Give it a rest. |
+1 The people slamming this are just jealous that it’s the case. (I am too, lol!) |
You may want to watch your language here. |
You sound jealous. Kid goes to Clemson and still ends up wildly successful? Well, at least he's dumb. The thing is. You're wrong. I have kids at two Big3 schools and I agree that it's "many" kids. Maybe not "many, many" but more than you might think. These kids are also free to take athletic offers from random schools. See where they go to college doesn't matter. My kids are not one of them. We have no connections. However, you're ignorant or in denial if you don't know how often this works at a whole variety of DC schools from Sidwell to Gonzaga. |
| Crazy people would pay OOS money for a hillbilly redneck school. i get it if you are from SC and pay in-state, but OOS ... no way. |
I don't think I'm wrong. I'm not saying these kids are dumb by any means. Clemson is a good school. It's just not as academically selective as UChicago or wherever. By and large, kids in independent schools go to the school with the strongest reputation that will accept them. I've worked very closely with independent schools and know them well. The counselors talk to students about fit, and fit is important for sure, but it's just ridiculous to claim that there's a pattern of kids from these schools who are aiming significantly lower academically than they can qualify. They might choose Clemson over Wisconsin or Minnesota if they like warm weather and they have friends there, but they would choose Vanderbilt or one of the UCs if they had the scores to get into Chicago. If you have any association with these schools you know this. |

+1 Last PP.
The schools that rank "comparison" on this board make me chuckle. Most should not be mentioned in the same breath! |
This. In a nutshell. |
Have you ever stepped foot on "Visi's" campus? I'm pretty sure the folks who send their kids there are not worried about the OOS costs. |
| Anyone using the term VISI just go away. It’s really a horrible abbreviation that no one associated with the place actually uses. |
