Ladies - did you switch to a short haircut for career reasons?

Anonymous
I've had a short pixie cut for many years as a professional woman. The key is to make sure you have a good stylist who will give you a cut with a feminine look, and also to get it cut very frequently. I really need to get my pixie cut every 4-6 weeks or it looks shaggy. If you're not prepared to do the maintenance for that, then maybe skip it.

Cutting your hair for work is a boomer move.

Yes - to save time in the mornings. Also, for the more professional look. Long hair is fine but it is more common to see short-haired sr management ladies.

I entirely dispute that short hair is more professional. That seems like something a very old person would say. Now long hair is back in fashion, and even though it's been co-opted by the MAGA gang, it goes far beyond it. Many women all around the world, and not in any way associated with US politics, are sporting long hair.

I am glad. The short hair look doesn't flatter every face. We should be allowed to wear our hair however we like.

Unless you have very weird beliefs about how employers shouldn't care about dress or grooming, you don't actually believe that.

Maybe that's the goal for the "career reasons"

They don't care about the length of your hair.

Never. I absolutely hate short hair or even should length bob I tried one time not for career reason, but because I was tired washing it.

What is “girlish hair”? I don’t wear pigtails.

Big long speech today about hair length from the employer of 3 million Americans.

After 50 no one looks at you anyway so I would rather please myself than you

News to me

Not to bring race into this, but I have to ask is this a white woman thing? Short pixie styles, chin bobs and even nearly bald styles look gorgeous on African American women. We’re just reluctant to pull the trigger because so much baggage is tied to our hair.

I don't think it's the length as much as how it's styled. Beach waves and messy buns look just as bad at the office as a frizzy bob or overly gelled helmet pixie.

Make whatever haircut you have look neat, and you'll be fine.

What do you mean by short? I switched from long hair to shoulder length when I turned 40 or so, to look more professional. Is that what you are asking?
