Tips to stop hitting the snooze button?

Anonymous
Every night I have the best of intentions to get up at a decent time to have a leisurely morning. Instead, I push the snooze button until the last possible minute, and then I'm rushing around like a crazy person. How do I break this terrible habit? I've tried putting my phone (alarm) across the room, but I just hit snooze and get back in bed. I'm getting 7, sometimes even 8, hours of sleep, so I know I'm not exhausted!

I'm open to any and all suggestions. I'm so tired of mornings like this!

Go to bed earlier. Some people need 9 hours of sleep, or maybe you got behind somehow. Sorry to break it to you. I personally need less sleep if I exercise regularly, but YMMV.

I struggle with this too. I'm considering setting up a coffee machine in my bedroom

You need more than 7 hours of sleep then.

Put your alarm clock far enough that you physically have to get out of bed and take a few steps.

DH has to do this. He puts it near the bathroom and since he is out of bed to turn it off he figures he might as well go to the bathroom since he's right there and if he's used the bathroom he might as well brush his teeth and shower and by then the blood is flowing and he's awake...and already on his way to getting ready.

Also, have your lunch done the night before so you can just grab & go.

Put the alarm clock on the other side of the room, so you have no choice to get out of bed. Do not allow yourself to return to bed! Also, a programmable thermostat really helped me. I set it so the house warms up an hour before I need to get up.

Put your feet on the floor and drag your lazy ass out of bed. It isn't a huge challenge.

Move your alarm clock far away.

There's this app that tries to wake you within a certain time frame that depends on your REM, breathing, etc. There may be a time in the sleep cycle where it would be easier for you to actually wake and get up. If you want to get up at 6:30, for example, it might find a time within 6:15-6:45 that is optimal for waking. Can't think of the name of it but you could google and see if that helps.

Why are all these posts telling OP to do what he/she says right there in their post they have already tried unsuccessfully? Do people have reading comprehension issues?

3 things that stopped me:
-going to bed at 9:30-now I feel like I'm "sleeping in."
-learning that the sleep you get during snooze doesn't help at all. You need a full cycle or at least 20-30 minutes if you are still tired. Not 9 minutes.
-telling myself that I will never do snooze again

I was thinking the same thing.

I struggle with this too OP - hopefully we can find a solution!

You need more than seven hours of sleep, for starters.

DH just got me one of those "light to wake" alarm clocks that gradually gets lighter for half an hour before the alarm goes off, a nice sound like birds chirping, at the appointed time.

It has helped a LOT. Not perfect, but I'd say 80% of my mornings I'm able to get up much easier.

Get an alarm that does not have a snooze button.

Try waking at a different time. Maybe your sleep cycle is interrupted at the time you're waking. Maybe even 15 mins earlier.
