It's weird that some people take it personally when anyone criticizes or judges Harry and Meghan.

Whether you like it or not, they were a very wealthy and privileged couple who had the rare opportunity of a lifetime of service as a representative of the British state. But they chose to turn their back to that, which is fine if they wanted privacy, and I guess a lifetime of charities wasn't their thing. But to apparently join the bandwagon of err... celebs flying around the world to champion causes including environmentalism and racking up huge carbon footprints and speaking fees at the same time is just the modern version of hypocritical huckstering. Saying one thing while doing the opposite.

I don't understand what they have to offer as far as their talks. Many of us have suffered serious losses but we don't whine about it and make money off it. And she is just using it, it is pretty obvious. If he has been receiving therapy, why did he only talk about it when she arrived? It is a private issue. Now they are monetizing it. Can people stop with the narrative that the British Royal Family is some wonderful, kind, benevolent enterprise? You people love to rewrite history. We’re talking about a royal family whose entire history was about maintaining control of various “lesser” countries. The current iteration uses is made up mostly leeches who do nothing worthwhile. Even the ones who “work” are just figureheads that are used to maintain a false image of kindness and caring. That family only cares about one thing, keeping themselves installed in their privileged position and making the public think they are still necessary. What needs to happen is that when The Queen does, brits come to their senses and do away with the monarchy all together. Then ALL of them can go on being exactly what they are rich people doing what rich people all the world over do. What’s best for them first. If any of you think that William and Kate are more caring about the “serving the public” than Harry and Meghan you’re nuts. They all care about the same thing, what’s the best way to get what they want for themselves. For W+K that means being the good little royals and foe H+M that means trying to figure out another way to earn money without having to “serve” the British Royal Family.

1. Therapy doesn’t have a private issue. That’s your opinion and really shows your age.
2. I’ve also suffered the loss of a parent at a young age. I see no reason to be opposed to receiving money for talking about it as it doesn’t change anything. Many people write memoirs that go over all sorts of tragedies and I don’t begrudge them that.

However, their appearance would grab the biggest headlines if it was a complete surprise. That means they would have to forego all those pre-event parties that are ideal for industry introductions and mingling if they wanted to avoid tipping off the media.

Arguments against attending The Oscars include not having a specific project to promote or support… and the logistics of arranging everything at the last minute.

Without a nominated person or project to support, their appearance would be seen as purely self-promotional. That could spur more public criticism, as well as potentially irritate those nominees on whom the spotlight should be shining that evening.

Of course, the logistics would be challenging given the size of their security staff.
