Illegals Sue Georgia U for Admission

Anonymous
Things are really getting ridiculous. Now some illegal immigrants are suing Georgia University because they were denied admission on the grounds they are in this country unlawfully. Apparently, the illegals think that since Obama has protected them from deportation, they are also entitled to be admitted to our state schools (and at the in-state rate, too). And before you liberals jump to their defense, remember that for every law-breaking immigrsnt who gets in, a law-abiding American student gets kept out. I for one would like to see preference given to our OWN citizens, and not people who are in this country illegally.

I agree.

Wow. They can afford college with access to only low paying jobs. Sounds like they know more about economics than Americans.

This is the type of thing that goes to Trump's advantage. Hillary in the meantime is bragging about all the illegal immigrants getting college educations - and ignoring (or not recognizing) that slots are limited and it's hurting American citiziena.

So you're saying that they're not competing only with low-income workers for jobs, but for the higher-level professional jobs? But remember, a lot of illegals in the liberal states (like California) get in-state tuition, which is pretty reasonable.

DOes the sense of entitlement perpetuated by liberals ever end?

OP, it is totally ridiculous. If high school students have the grades to be accepted, then they've been in this country for years, since they were very young, going to US schools, acting like Americans.

We need to act, not just put it off. We need to either normalize their status (which Obama attempted to do), or deport all of them. If you're in favor of deportation, then you need to start making phone calls, writing letters. Even Trump has realized that deportation is infeasible and a bad idea, sending all of these college bound students out of our country, generating ill will, harming them for actions undertaken by their parents and for actions not undertaken by our government.

You forgot to mention the average hard-working American families who can barely afford college for their own children but will be footing the bill; however, I'm sure you were thinking of them.

I went to state school on loans, like most people. My parents didn't pay for my college.

What hard working American families are you referring to?

Say what? Nobody is saying to send all these illegal immigrant college students out of the country. I'm asking why do illegal immigrants feel entitled to admission to college in the first place, knowing that they are taking the place of a law-abiding American student? College slots are limited. Tax-funded support for state schools is limited. It takes some nerve for illegal immigrants to sue a state university for admission, when that university's policies requires that the student be a lawful resident. These illegal immigrants are not lawful residents. They may be saved from deportation, but that's a far cry from saying they are here lawfully. I sure hope Georgia wins this suit.

From my jobs working in a large public school system, I know that there are many families who struggle to work to pay for college tuition for their kids. If you're not aware of that fact, I wouldn't know how to prove it to you on an anonymous forum.

Either way, we don't have to admit them to the schools. The situation is out of control. I don't care how long they have been here in the USA.

Although I think all illegal aliens should be deported, if Obama is going to let all these people stay, he might as well educate them. We don't need more uneducated people in this country.

What do you mean...."he" should educate them? Is he paying? Or are tax-payers subsidizing it, though in-state tuition? And what about the American citizen who does NOT get a slot? Just educate everyone, right? Expand the universities....build new campuses.....hire more professors.....that type of thing? Well, I have to ask the same question I ask of liberals when they say we should give this-or-that free to everyone, where's the money going to come from?

And finally, as un-PC is it is, is it possible that some people just aren't capable enough for college? If we let in everyone, even the HS grads pushed through the system and reading at an 8th grade level, a college degree will be meaningless.
