IAC Lacrosse 2019 Season

On my son's 5th grade club team, there are Mater Dei kids that are as much as 17 months older than other kids on the same team. It's crazy, but nothing can be done due to the grade based leagues/clubs in the area.

Rest assured, it generally doesn't work out in the long run as the older kids are good right now cause they are oner/,ore mature. In time, that evens out, and cream rises to the top no matter age.

Research shows it does hurt youth participation and growth of the sport as kids drop out early as they are tired of getting beaten on by older kids.

Also, it's not like this in Long Island and other hot-beds. Only DMV and the wacky parents down here.

Actually it doesn't work out until the young men go onto college and if kids are leaving due to unfair team setups than it doesn't work out over time. I'm not attacking you but you gotta be stronger and try not to justify your participation in the process. The best high school teams in the area in almost any sport have a large number of holdbacks/reclass or delayed entry students. There's no denying it if you look at most sport's true rankings not done by the Washington Post. The Post tries to be "fair" by representing both publics and privates in order to try and sustain readership. (BTW - it's not working JB)

If the BLC 2025 team has kids on the roster 17 months younger, this means there are kids with 2007 birthdays competing against kids with 2005 birthdays. Because Mater Dei families move all their kids in packs from sport to sport, it creates tough conditions for other BLC players who don't go to school there or who are 17 months younger. Those parents should immediately demand for those kids to move to the B team to get more time or they should seek a different club to play for.

I will disagree about only the DMV being wacky as class based lacrosse is just as much the norm across the country. LI teams go by age-based and they are pretty much the last geographic region holding onto that designation.

Long Island clubs do not "go by age-based." They have grade-based teams and, in fact, went to grade-based teams years before the Maryland and DC clubs did so. The Long Island teams, however, do not have a hold-back problem and have never been filled with older kids for two reasons. First, public school lacrosse on Long Island is outstanding. A much higher percentage of kids playing club lacrosse on Long Island attend public schools, and those kids do not "redshirt". Second, New York public schools have a December birthday cut-off. Many kids start kindergarten at age 4 and turn 5 during the fall. The oldest kids in kindergarten will not turn six until January. So, the Long Island grade-based club teams tend to be significantly younger than their Maryland and DC counterparts. That's not to say there are never any holdback or older kids, but it is less common.

So if I'm a September born in 2006, can I compete on a 2025 club team and league in LI? (I think I got my years right)

I thought LI had an upper age limit cap on delayed entry babies birth month?

I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, as long as the kid is in the 2025 grade at school. The teams are based on graduation year.

Brief article about Prep's victory over Landon last Thursday. The comment section over there.... Mater "Delay"

Every HS conference in the country has age cut off's for eligibility. Can kids do pre-first or repeat a grade...sure, it happens all the time for a number of reasons, but it's impossible for kids to repeat 2 or three times like everyone talks about. If they do, they will not be playing any sport their senior year of HS.

PG year kids, play on PG teams at select boarding schools. They play other PG and collegiate teams, not varsity high school teams.

It's not impossible. There are currently more than three 16 year olds playing in hoco lacrosse 2023 elite division. Confirmed by hoco. Also parents dont care about the 19 age limit for high school sports as their club teams are far more important and the schools dont self report.

It's ridiculous, and and true.

Also plenty of the better lax schools and hoop schools play the pg academies. Culver, img, hill, oak hill...

Prep's sophomore class is making major contributions with at least 6 who are starting or getting major time at midfield and attack...not the oldest players on the field by far
