You would be awkward too if you had gone through this for the last 20 Years. |
I noticed Patsy also often smiled when it seemed inappropriate to me. But, who's to say how you would smile, speak, what your face would do in a situation like that. Being interviewed by the police or press for any horrible thing that happened in your life.... |
The ransom note specified a time the Call would happen I believe it was 10am and the police prepped the Ramsey's and had the phone ready but the time came and went without them mentioning the ransom call. It seems like they never questioned why the kidnappers never called etc...as if they knew there was no kidnapper(s). |
No I am pretty sure in that case I would still be running around looking for her, almost in disbelief that she was actually gone. Or looking for signs of where they exited the house, what they took, if there was struggle, etc. |
Hardly any other suspects were even looked at. This is one of the main complaints from the DA's office and Investigator Smit. There was evidence to suggest it could've been an intruder but the Boulder PD had blinders on and only zeroed in on the Ramsey's. Apparently this often happens in high-profile cases where there is immense pressure to solve the crime quickly. It's unfortunate the the police and media pretty much made up their mind that it was the family and hardly looked at the possibility of an intruder. The story became entertainment for the public to consume, rather than about all the facts. For instance, the police said there were no tracks in the snow so it had to be the parents or brother. It turns out there was no snow around many areas of the house. While the ransom note could've been Patsy's writing, it very well may not have been. What mother who has just accidentally murdered her child and then elaborately stages a cover-up, then sits down to write a 3 page ransom note? I would think it would be short and to the point given how frazzled she must've been. My theory is that some pedophile, Santa or someone else, who knew the house and was obsessed with JB broke in while the Ramsey's were gone. The Ramsey's had let over 1,000 people into their home during a recent home tour. Some sicko would've known the house. He used a taser to sedate her and took her to the basement where he planned to kidnap her but it didn't work. He sexually assaulted her and then killed her. The most compelling evidence is that JB had what look to be fingernail marks around her neck where the garrote was. Meaning that she tried to pull it loose while being attacked. She was then hit with a blunt force object and killed. So it couldn't have been that she was struck first in the head and the strangulation was staged. She was trying to claw her way out of the strangulation. |
Had they not found the body by then? |
I'll have to watch the entire interview but sometimes people do smile inappropriately when they are feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable. Burke has not talked about this over the past 20 years. He had probably been told NOT to talk to anyone about it by his parents, maybe even lawyers. Burke is, in a sense, being a naughty little boy for even talking about it. I find the smiling unnerving. I don't quite know what to make of it. It'll be an interesting show to watch. |
No, they hadn't found the body at the point. |
No at that time it was assumed the kidnappers had the child. |
And that is why it was weird that the time for the call came and went and neither parent said "We didn't get a call!! What do we do now! We have to find her! Please find her!!" |
Totally. I would be in agony waiting by that phone!! |
They also mentioned that the parents stopped speaking to each other and then after the funeral there was the CNN interview while refusing to speak with police they did a televised interview. |
Once JonBenet was found dead the worst had already happened. Cooperating with the police at that point wasn't going to bring their daughter back and if they were under a veil of suspicion themselves then cooperating could easily have been to their detriment. At that point their main focus was on protecting themselves, each other and Burke. I think that's understandable. But going on news shows was weird. It was like a PR move - wanting to look good in the public eye. You are either focused on finding your daughter's killer or you aren't but don't fail to cooperate with the police and then do news interviews. |
+1 BINGO. As if they were guilty and trying to deflect. |
I don't see why people think the Ramsey's actions were so suspicious after the murder. They did cooperate with police at first and then when realizing they were suspects, hired a criminal defense attorney, at the advice of their attorney friend, Bynum. Anyone, innocent or guilty, accused of a crime should hire an attorney right away. Look at the Steven Avery case or West Memphis Three case to see what can happen when you don't. Here's the timeline for the Ramsey's shortly after the murder- 12-28-96 Ramseys Provided Forensic Samples. Ramsey family goes to Boulder police station to answer questions and give samples of hair, blood and handwriting. These include John Ramsey, John Andrew Ramsey and Burke Ramsey; "'Patsy' Ramsey was too distraught to submit to the evidence collection, authorities said" 12-28-96 Ramseys Hired Criminal Attorneys. "Shortly after noon that Saturday, without consulting John or Patsy, Bynum told Detective Arndt that the Ramseys would not give any more testimonial evidence without a criminal attorney present, and they would no longer share privileged information with the police. Since he was no longer a criminal attorney, Bynum called Bryan Morgan of Haddon, Morgan and Foreman in Denver, one of Colorado's top firms. By Saturday evening the Ramseys had retained Morgan." 1-1-97 Ramseys CNN Appearance. Ramseys appear on CNN, confirming that John and Patsy each have hired an attorney and that John also hired a private investigator I do not think the CNN appearance was a PR move in order to look good. I think these were distraught people who had buried their daughter the day before, the media was hounding them like crazy, the whole nation was wondering who these people were and what they had to say for themselves, and so they went on TV to try and clear things up. All of this is understandable. I think the Boulder Police, the media and the public were ready to convict these people before they ever had a chance of getting the facts out. |
