We didn't read anything into the veil. Muslims have come onto this thread explaining the veil and the Muslim concept of modesty and quite frankly they are the ones who make it sound deranged.

But you can fix that. What does covering hair have to do with modesty? What does covering every single strand of hair have to do with modesty? What does covering your arms and almost every part of your body have to do with modesty? If a man can see my calves or arms, what is immodest about that? Is there something sexual about literally every part of a woman's body?

There is no one single definition of modesty. If you don't want to cover your calves or arms, then don't. But it is not up to you tell other women how they should construe modesty. If someone doesn't feel modest unless their face is covered, it's not up to you to correct them. If a tribeswoman out in the Amazon jungle feels it's immodest to cover, then it's not up to you to tell her otherwise. Modesty is about personal comfort.

I don't believe any Muslim on this thread told you that the onus and blame for extramarital sex is on women. As far as I'm concerned, the most deranged person on this thread is the woman shaking her fist to the sky in WHAT SHOULD I TELL MY DAUGHTER!

Many of the people in this thread who want to defend hijab are insisting that women who think the hijab is stupid want to decide what other women wear and tell hijabi women what to wear. But we don't. I can certainly have an opinion about what you wear without forcing you to change. Do you see the difference? I can make a judgment without coercing people. I think booty shorts are stupid too, but I have no inclination to make them illegal. Suggesting otherwise is suggesting that we are not allowed to have opinions.

But I have every right to my own opinion. And my opinion, after reading this thread, is that wearing a hijab is backward and that, in practice, it restricts a woman's freedom of movement, creates discomfort, has no reasonable equivalent for men, creates a visible division between "pious" and non-Muslim and uncovered Muslim women, and places the onus on women to "save" men from their sexual urges, which in turn creates a culture where rape and sexual harassment are increasingly excusable.

It’s amazing how much things have changed since 2016. MBS outlawed the hijab requirement in Saudi Arabia and Dubai is practically the Beverly Hills of Arab women and Las Vegas these days.

What’s ironic is hiding female hair was always political. The Us is also responsible for the Cold War right wing support against leftist/secular culture in the Middle East

Ironically, the full burqas/ face veils used to be seen as something Jewish women did in Yemen not the Muslims just a century ago and the same in Syria with head covers being associated with nuns and Orthodox Christian women not Muslim women.

It’s such a dramatic difference when you look at 1950s/1960s Syrian and Egyptian movies and compare to today.
