There is no way McCarthy can deliver the votes for anything that would pass the Senate or that Biden would sign. The compromise has to come from the Senate, but McCarthy has to fail first before any of the chickenshit Republican Senators has the courage to pursue a deal. |
More evidence that the GOP is operating in bad faith and doesn't give a fig about deficits:

It's been pretty clear that the GOP hasn't cared about deficits since sometime before the Reagan administration. |
Untrue. They care about deficits when they don’t hold the Presidency. They want austerity for Dems, not when they’re in office because they’re the biggest hypocrites ever. |
But they don't care about deficits because they are completely unwilling to raise taxes. They just want to cut spending when Dems are in office. But they'd be completely happy with both cutting spending and cutting taxes at the same time, thereby ballooning the deficit even more. |
So? Everyone knows this. The thing is everyone also knows the democrats will negotiate and give away the store. Why is Biden negotiating with these clowns? Biden should demand the same deal Trump got plus immigration reform and gun control. |
Trump gave dems what they wanted Biden will give rep what they want. Its that simple unless you want to default. |
Uh no. The Dems passed a clean debt resolution with no strings attached. If you call that giving Trump what they wanted, sure. But they needed Democratic support to pass it three times. I guess the rules are different when a Democrat is in the White House, amirite? |
I don't think they would be happy with cutting spending. Not in any real way. Too many of their constituents are on social security and medicare, and plenty of campaign contributions come in from defense contractors. No new taxes, no cuts to Social Security or Medicare, no cuts to defense spending -- that limits spending cut options a lot. |
I am pretty sure we can get the FBI cut. |
Assuming they are still willing to service the debt, that makes their cuts mathematically possible only if they zero out every other line item. Defense + VA is 22%. Social security is 25%, Medicare is 14%, and interest is 7%. That 68% is untouchable according to McCarthy. He's 22% cuts would have to come from only 32% of the budget which means zeroing out a lot of what's left |
I wonder what Biden is offering Republicans in exchange for raising the debt ceiling? I guess we’ll find out soon. |
What are republicans offering Biden in exchange for the spending cuts they want? |
Raising the debt ceiling and avoiding catastrophe. |
