| She's finally getting what she really deserves: to live free as the person she truly is. Such refreshing news! |
| That is a crock. I hope the military is not paying for it. |
| Jesus Christ. I am fine with Trans people, but why do this for a prisoner? |
| I support trans rights, but I don't want to pay for someone else's elective surgery when I can't afford to pay for my own. If I commit a crime, will tax payers foot my diastasis recti repair? It's not just unsightly, but actually causes me discomfort. If someone will champion my right to this surgery, I'll happily knock over the liquor store of your choice in a Trump Halloween mask. |
I feel the same way. I think this sets up an awful precedent. |
| Prisoners dying of cancer cannot get treatment. Why should she get reassignment surgery? Anyway, so sick of hearing about lgbt stuff. |
this isn't necessarily true. Our family member who was incarcerated started receiving treatment during his incarceration. However, they basically had to order a compassionate release as the cancer had made him a parapalegic (the tumor had spread to his spine and paralyzed him from the waist down) and he couldn't return to the prison facility as they could not accommodate a prisoner in a wheelchair. Of course, the treatment was not started immediately upon discovery of the tumor - paperwork took a while. But treatment wasn't completely denied. |
The military isn't paying for it, you and I as taxpayers are paying for it |
| I am 100% in favor of trans rights, have a friend transitioning right now, could not be more on board in that regard. This is bullshit. |

What is wrong with you people??!? Are all of you bigots?
First of all. ITS NOT ELECTIVE, OK???? Imagine how you'd feel if you were wrongly imprisoned in the wrong body?? Then you'd feel different about this. And this is supposed to be the land of the free! |
| Then you pay for it, this MAN is a criminal, you pay for it. |
Are you serious? You really can't actually believe that this is not elective and that this is something the taxpayers should pay for. Have they looked into oess expensive options first like maybe checking his hormone levels to see if his male hormones are out of whack and then giving him hormone treatment for correcting thst issue, instead of mutilating his body against his chromosones and DNA? Or treating his mental illness? Or if he "needs" this elective surgery have his family set up a go fund me page to pay for it himself. This surgery is 100% elective and should not be footed by the taxpayers, especially for a prisoner who betrayed our contry and especially when the military cannot afford to take care of soldiers and veterans with REAL needs like ptsd or missing limbs. |
| Unfortunately taxpayers are stuck with the tab. |
| Why is the military paying for it? |
So then it should be considered non elective for everyone else NOT in prison too. |
