Chelsea Manning finally getting her surgery!

You mean we, the taxpayer? I agree.

If I commit a crime, will tax payers foot my diastasis recti repair? It's not just unsightly, but actually causes me discomfort. If someone will champion my right to this surgery, I'll happily knock over the liquor store of your choice in a Trump Halloween mask.

PP, this is hilarious. Coffee??

First of all. ITS NOT ELECTIVE, OK????

Imagine how you'd feel if you were wrongly imprisoned in the wrong body?? Then you'd feel different about this. And this is supposed to be the land of the free!

Crock of shit, it is elective. He can lop of his penis on his own dime. Parasitic traitor.

Who is going to pay for my surgery when I decide I want to be a duck?

It's you! Get a life.

And a brain.

I dont think they are prejudiced against LGBT rights...I think they are prejudiced against criminals getting expensive surgery done, at the taxpayers expense.

There's absolutely nothing in this thread about L, G, or B.

There is some harsh language in here, but the worst is "parasitic traitor" and "criminal." Manning is a criminal, with parasite being subjective and I suppose traitor is too.

Because one does not want to pay for a man to become a woman, we are prejudiced. Okay got it. I also don't want to pay for you to get a boob or sack job. Which prejudice is that?

Listen you troglodyte, I I don't even know where to begin! If you are not a total idiot, start by at least using the correct language: it is gender affirming surgery.

That's what you call it in your little la la land but it's actually penectomy, orchietomy, and feminizing genitoplasty. It's a big surgery with a long recovery and you are left with a constellation of parts with varying degrees of functionality. So yes, the pp is right. They lop off much of the penis and balls and use the leftovers to fashion a vagina. The meatus is often used to make a clitoris. I agree he's a traitor and most insurance will not cover this surgery.

There are many reasons why someone could be opposed to this:

- doesn't think taxpayers should pay for any elective surgery

- doesn't think convicted criminals should get elective surgery

- is angry about the crime he committed

- doesn't believe taxpayers should pay for surgery that an insurance company would not pay

- prejudice

The fact that you immediately leap to prejudice as the reason you perceive there to be opposition says more about your biases than it does about the opposition.

By your logic, if the NRA calls assault weapons hunting rifles, we should do the same. Alternatively, I think we should all reach our own conclusions about what we should call things.

Agree, except that: when an African-American is shot by the police, the sole motive is always racism. -BLM

If Rachel Dolezal goes to prison, does that mean tax payers should pay for all the procedures she undergoes to pass as black? She feels she is a black person trapped in a white person's body. What's the difference?

Add another reason to the list:

-genuinely concerned about that the Army providing genital surgery will only worsen Manning's life, given Manning's various lifelong mental illnesses and the fact that suicide attempts are higher for trans people after surgery: http://www.transcentralpa.org/_content/downloads/Preventing_Transgender_Suicide.pdf
