DP. Everything Hamas has done has been a war crime. And there would be no war if Hamas hadn't been lobbing rockets nonstop and then launching a major attack executing and kidnapping innocent civilians by the hundreds. If I were a Palestinian I'd be furious with Hamas for pointlessly causing all of the destruction to be rained down on my people. |

War casualties absolutely are war crimes if the killers violate international law, which Israel is doing. This is well documented. Being in a war, whatever the cause, does not make it acceptable to torture/rape prisoners to death, to deliberately shoot small children, to destroy hospitals, to hold prisoners indefinitely without access to a lawyer, to murder journalists and doctors, etc., etc. A recent Haaretz report discusses how IDF soldiers are ordered to exterminate Palestinian men on sight and then lie and claim they were combatants. Fortunately Hamas has impotent mouthpieces here to speak for them and to support their propaganda, not that it matters to the outcome of the conflict.
Meanwhile, in lieu of bloviation, the IDF is actually doing something to eliminate the threat. Yes, war is messy. You don't want the mess, don't start a war, something the Palestinians do over and over again, somehow thinking that "this time" the end result will be different. Predictably, they just make their situation worse. Their fighters are eliminated or rendered impotent by being jailed, their foreign aid is used to try to sustain a pointless military capability, and their civilians continue to suffer. The children who do survive are indoctrinated to believe that their best and highest purpose is to try to eliminate a neighboring state, instead of to trying to make things better for themselves and their families by working towards a peaceful future instead of nurturing old tribal grievances which date from long before they were born. Violence begets violence, a simple concept which is evidently acceptable to them. That being so, they are getting what they incite. What a great system they have. |

The best news in a long time is that it looks as though the carnage is set to end next Sunday and that both sides will release hostages. Apparently, the little Bibas boys MAY still be alive, as they are on the list of hostages to be released. This would be wonderful! I'm also hoping for the release of those prisoners in Sde. Teiman, like Dr. Abu Safiya, who may now escape being raped to death like his predecessor, Dr. Al Bursh.
There will be two million sick, starving, traumatized people in Gaza, many of whom have horrific injuries, who will need immediate help. I hope the UN and other agencies are ready to step up. |
