I posted my theory some (many) pages back. British royals never remove their coat in public, hence the many cost dresses you see. Melania and the rest of her Clan O' Grifters (very mistakenly) view themselves as royalty and are (lamely) aping all the things royals do in a pathetic and transparently desperate attempt to project an image of being an American royal dynasty.

I must say there is some serious plaid-matching in that coat. Check out the lines of sleeves--pocket tabs--coat just above her wrists and below elbows.

Agree. Me in green cap: matching pockets and maintaining the horizontal plaid takes care, but controlling the vertical plaid spacing onto the sleeve while allowing for natural arm position is top level pattern cutting. The formed hip and shoulder cut is also very modern.
