I agree with you. Connecticut basically decided to keep the death penalty just for the Cheshire murder case of 2007 claiming the crime was "so heinous, so depraved, that society is best served by imposing the ultimate sanction on the criminal." I think this should be the case for Wint and I'm not a huge advocate of the death penalty. When you have severe cases like this with irrefutable evidence like DNA, it's hard to think anything else would be just.

As awful as this was, it is not the worst murder case that this country has ever seen. Not by a longshot.

I agree with you. There are plenty that are sadly more heinous than this but the fact that torturing a child was involved definitely puts it up there as one of the worst, at least in recent history.

Cheshire was equally bad, if not worse, they raped the daughter in that case.

I think this was the worst crime - committed by children.

There must be another car involved. Public transportation too far away; not plausible they would take it. Or do 2 guys leave in Porsche and one gets dropped off at metro? Why would they do that?

In my opinion, Porsche was taken to church parking lot at 1:30. Perp goes home, showers, etc. Then comes back to torch it at 5:30.

Very plausible idea about the Porsche being left in the church parking lot while Wint went to get himself cleaned up at 1:30. He was taking a huge risk that no one would notice the car and link it with the house fire, but maybe that lot is pretty empty during the week.

Not sure if everyone knows that Wint has also stabbed three other people. I can't help wondering if he stabbed or killed somebody else after leaving the Savopolous house, and set fire to destroy evidence.

I'm just not sure about the torturing of the child - really hasn't been confirmed. The burning thing was after he had bludgeoned them all - he planned to burn them all to conceal evidence, but the fire didn't ignite in adult's room. He wasn't burning them alive but after he thought they were dead - just happened that the child and housekeeper were still barely alive. What about guy and his girlfriend who killed a woman/ child and her friend who he thought stole his money. They held them captive for a while first trying to find out where the money was, then killed the women in front of the child. Then the girlfriend took the child (who was in shock and said he had to pee) to the bathroom. Then they killed the child. Pretty horrible stuff.

Our criminal justice system needs to be much tougher on crime. If more prisons need to be built, so be it. The judge who gave him 89 days after his second-offense stabbing should be publicly exposes and disciplined for incompetence.
As soon as we learnt details of the savagery in this crime, DH and I felt certain this DDW was yet another monster set free by a bad judge.

What does the phrase 'windmilling knives" mean?
I picture him twirling them around like a windmill, is that correct?

Scarey as hell, where did he learn these sick skills?

As far as wint killing someone else after setting fire to the mansion, to the poster who proposed that idea, what gave you that idea? Have bodies been found, or people going missing recently in the area?

Really? I still have number of husband for former nanny. Maybe you don't live that way, but others do.

The husband was probably calling her phone and that's were they got the number from. Called ID on the bousekeepers phone.

Is there a thread for ideas of how to emotionally get over this a little bit? It's very difficult to process. I haven't read this thread.
