I certainly don't claim to have the authoritative answer but I do not think they're at the point of whittling down players quite yet. Players can still sign up for ID sessions so they don't seem to be filtering yet. They do seem to have stopped sending out invites to players who first expressed interest several months ago and from what I can tell, are only sending out invites to players who have already attended a prior session. |
Also what club? I can't imagine call backs/invites not being a way to whittle players down otherwise another open tryout would simply be announced. |
+100 thank you for saying that. been thinking the same thing. enough of this. move on. |
All the best players leave to go to BYRC or the like. They're more worried about recruiting players than developing their own and on the girls side they don't know how to develop talent. |
and without ECNL or, maybe DA, girls who want to play at a higher level in college need to move to make sure they get looks once they're in the U14 range. the girls' D1 recruiting process is complete by the end of the summer after sophomore year of high school, as ridiculous as that is. |
^^my kid (October bday) will only be starting 7th grade when they start the u14 season.
7th grade/u14 is still early. Freshman year of HS kid will be u16. This is all due to the birth year change last year. |
But some of those u14 kids are 8th grade. They'll be trying to get seen by college coaches at U15 (freshman), verbal commit at U16 (sophomore) if the current timelines hold. The younger kids in the group have a little more time. |
Yes. My dad kept telling me we should make a move by the time my son reached U13--but then he lost an entire year to the birth year change and played U9, u10, u12. I am now looking at U14/15 instead of u13 to move to a more high profile team. He will only be u15 in 8th. |
^^the birth year change is more problematic for colleges too. They now have a single incoming class split up amongst two different years which requires scouting of more games. |
College soccer is a waste of time. There is no possession, GK's always punt. The goals are ugly and the overall play is sloppy. You're better off playing in USL or NASL and focusing on studies when you go to college as oppose to trying to do both. |
Not sure I understand why the age group changes would make it much (if any) more difficult for college coaches. If they are at a major showcase (DA, ECNL, National league showcases or top tournament brackets) they can easily see multiple age groups at the same location. They go from field to field checking out the talent, as they did before the change. If they are scouting an individual player, then they'll work out a time to see the player in league or tournament action, or at a camp. |
Those are the people that think college coaches go to showcases and window shop, just stopping by games to see if there's anything they like. Most coaches are there for a specific list of players and they plan their day according to the schedules those players have sent them. So they're still only juggling the games of the players they're interested in, regardless of what age group they are. I'm not saying they couldn't get interested in an unknown player on the same field as a player they're recruiting, but they are already at that game for a purpose. |
^^tgats how I ended up playing for Duke. |
Indeed, and that's why you want to be on a high-level team during your showcase years. DD's team has a few "standouts" that draw a lot of coaches to games, and other players on the team get the benefit of all those coaches seeing them at the same time. |
Exactly. In my case, the 'hyped' players did not turn out to be the ones many of the schools ended up being impressed by. |
