Looks like they're still at it - this quote from Girls Basketball: "The Hawks had capable post players already, but they added another one this season in 6’2″ sophomore Ziyana Williams, a transfer from Mount Vernon. Williams led the balanced Hayfield attack with 16 points, with a lot of her production coming in the fourth quarter."

That sounds one-off. One of Madison's best girls' basketball players a while back transferred from Langley in her junior year and was immediately allowed to play. Rather different from the obvious recruiting of kids to Hayfield to play football this year.

People don’t want to admit it, but this happens alot. Kids transfer schools to play with their friends, so they can play the position they want, to win a championship, to play for a specific coach, or other sports related reasons.

I guess everyone assumed the girl’s family made the decision to move without being recruited. Madison and Langley both have strong girls’ basketball programs, but Madison won four state championships in a row while Langley typically has come up short in district or regional playoffs.

Yeah it’s interesting how Madison has so many great athletes in there boundaries

Hayfield has been trying to get several boys from the MVHS basketball team to transfer. Unfortunately it is way too easy to do this even after the kids are established in MVHS.

Vienna is full of parents who have money and care about athletics. Any half way decent athlete can shine at the public high school level given years of playing and training prior

Good for the Mt Vernon kids finding a way out of a failing school

It’s possible that she lives on Fort Belvoir and while they’re zoned for Mt Vernon military parents living on Belvoir can choose to have their children attend any FCPS if there is space (the the parents have to provide transportation). A large number of military kids on Belvoir transfer to Hayfield and South County instead of attending Mt Vernon.

Agreed, it’s been failing, but we have a new principal with a track record of restoring “failed schools” (he came from Gaithersburg High School, whose announcement created an outpouring of gratitude from folks all over Montgomery County).

What is sad, and totally off topic, is that his predecessor at Mount Vernon oversaw the decline and was regarded with a promotion to an area principalship thanks to her sorority sister and chief of DEI at FCPS - who was also a former principal at MVHS and is solely responsible for the beginning of the decline of MVHS.

It really makes no sense for Ft. Belvoir to be zoned for Mount Vernon.

Hayfield is much more accessible to Ft. Belvoir.

It depends on where they live on the base Mt Vernon highway to old Mt Vernon is a 5 minute drive for housing on the south side of the base. I doubt they'd want to create a split feeder, but north of Rt 1 has an easy drive to hayfield, south to Mt Vernon

That’s true at Hayfield too. Two ACC commits, 2 mid-major commits, and the rest are partial D2 scholarships and D3s. A lot of the kids are on SM celebrating their ODAC “offers.”

No intelligent person is buying your narrative. The four D1 commits are all in Hayfraud's senior class. The underclassmen have plenty more offers coming. The prior comment was clearly referring to Madison's entire team. Sit this one out.

I find it interesting that at least three of the kids ( I havent looked at the whole list yet) committed to play college football from Hayfield have their hometown listed as Quantico, Virginia.

Madison senior WR has D1 offers. The senior QB could if he wants (he’s baseball first).

I’m not disagreeing as much as you think. The talent gap between 2 D1 senior players and 4 is rather vast if the team is well coached with decent athletes at the other positions.

Not off topic at all. The Hayfield situation reeks of the same cronyism.

Madison has an extremely long history of good sports teams. Youth sports are a huge part of the community and have been for MANY, MANY
