I'm beginning to see a pattern here...

I don't think it's fair to say they bombed spectacularly. By all accounts, they did have some successes - Harry with his mental health awareness and veteran initiatives and Meghan with her capsule wardrobe and foreign tours. I think before the interview drama, they could count solid successes to their name. Obviously not everything they did was a success, but is that ever the case?

It was so quick. I feel like they just didn't give it a real 'go'. I think a lot of that was post-partum hormones and stress. There were so many major changes in a very short amount of time. Long time single, new husband, new couple, marriage, baby and fame she had never experienced all at once. I am not privy to what was asked during the time, but if the mental health was brought up to the Queen I am sure something could have been worked out over time. Forcing the hand so quickly and walking away (when clearly they did not get what they wanted out of it) was impulsive and not thought through.

This is my take as well.

Very telling! She must have given him away or something. She seems to do that with people, family, and pets.

Nope, she was living with the chef for years when she met Harry. Before that she was married to Trevor.

I thought the story was that he belonged to the chef she was living with.

I agree.

Definitely not thought out. It’s like when you go on vacation and you dream of moving there asap. Than you get back home and realize not yet. They seem to have plummeted in popularity since leaving. The glow is gone.

Actually from the data H and M's popularity is higher now especially with the more marketable demographic groups of Genz/millenials and younger. Their instagram followers surpassed the one used by Will/Kate after the exit as well so they are doing fine for popularity. You'll notice that the British tabloids are starting to circulate that their popularity may plummet but there are no real indications of this.

The British press and Prince Charles want them back.

The British tabloids have a lot to lose from this. The Royal Rota system gives publications exclusives that they would never get on their own. The Rota doesn't protect the BRF from paparazzi. It simply is a system where a rotation of publications get exclusive access and notice to the BRF on a rotating basis with the agreement that they share with others. This is a pretty stupid system for the BRF and more of an indication of who unequipped the BRF's press staff is at handling things. The argument from the BRF staff is that it saves the BRF from doing multiple interviews with all the outlets but the reality is that no celebrity ever gives interviews and announcement to all the outlets. They have capable PR staff who determine which outlets to choose. Can you imagine Lady Gaga or some other celebrity when they want to make an announcement/give an interview being told by their PR staff that they have to go to the National Inquirer not Rolling Stone or Vanity Fair?

There was an interesting article about the unprepared and unqualified BRF press and pr groups awhile ago. The jobs are paid very low and attract people who love the idea of working for the BRF not people who understand PR and people who get the job through connections without great qualifications. The structure itself is a PR no no with each member of the BRF getting its own PR staff or person in a feudal set up. The entire group is a gaggle of bungling idiots who constantly get caught unaware, have no strategy and sit at the mercy of whatever the British tabloids want to do to drive sales.

Prince Charles definitely wants them back as their exist royally screws up his plan to scale back the monarchy. Charles supposedly wanted to cut back official members of the BRF to only himself, Camilla, and Will and Harry's family. This would let Anne retire, get rid of Andrew and his kids and get rid of the awful Prince and Princes Michael of Kent. Without H and M. the number of royal engagement will need to be cut significantly and Will/Kate will need to pick up a huge amount which neither of them have ever been too keen to do.

Harry probably took a look at the future road and didn't like the idea of doing tons of work only until Will's kids became old enough to take it on and then ending up like the other older siblings with nothing to do. At least this way he can try to find something to do that isn't predicated on his brother allowing it.

This. He is much more marketable now than he will be in 15+ years when Will’s kids are of age. He probably saw Eugenia and her husband begging for a place to stay and Beatrice begging for a wedding and realized it was a bleak future for Archie.

"nothing to do" you have zero clue. many of them are extremely busy and heavily involved in many charities - that means turning up for planning meetings not just cutting ribbons.

They don’t need a precedent.

Harry hates the UK tabloid media and what they have done to both his mother and wife. That media isn’t going away, so good for them for leaning out.

They leaned so far out, the Kobe story knocked them into the woods. No one is talking about them anymore.

Totally. They lost their momentum and the shine is off. Kobe's death has transfixed the world.
