The Spirit Virginia DA ID day was far more well-organized than I expected. Decent set of players at U14-U15.

Really? That's great to hear! Nice to have another real option

Ellicot City is joining CCL.

Maryland U. offered decent competition usually. E. City was horrible and a longer drive. CCL just gets worse and worse. It just needs to implode.

Once Arlington and Loudoun go it will definitely lose any last bit of "elite" status. It will probably remain a relevant league in Virginia for mid tier clubs, especially those in far off areas with no other competition.

Where will Arlington go? Loudoun has DA and maybe ECNL. Arlington's out of both of those.

They could probably go wherever they wanted to. DA and ECNL seem desperate to add almost any clubs they can right now. I would like to see them play boys and girls ECNL, I think they would do well there.

So desperate that Arlington has nothing...right?

Three girls DA is VA and all three are situated in the Gold Vein of VA soccer (Western Prince William, Loudoun, Western Fairfax)

It'll be interesting to see the differences among attendees at both sessions. She also did VDA ID sessions and we were told that the next VDA ID sessions will be by invite. She's not currently with any of the clubs affiliated with a DA team so trying out widely.

So how was it?

It compared favorably to VDA, with what seemed a broader range of clubs represented. Not sure of specifics but noticed a few
Vienna, chantilly, and FCV jerseys. Didnt see any Reston jerseys. Didn't go to FCV ID day, as I figured they'll be filling the roster primarily from Loudoun and FCV existing teams.

No kidding!! There aren't any ECNL or DA girls' options inside the beltway. I was unhappy that Spirit DA and Arlington had their falling out because it would have been way more convenient for our family.

The technical director (Oscar) is one of the best in the area, and they have some very good coaches there. A question mark moving forward is how much Oscar's focus will be distracted by his role with the newly expanded VDA.

As with any other club though, it's really hard to generalize. It always boils down to the specific team your kid is on. Best way to go about it is to reach out to a few coaches at different clubs in your area and see if your kid can come out to practice with their teams. Then if you find something you think you like, make sure to go watch a game so you can see how the coach operates and behaves in that context as well.

Good luck and welcome to the area.

I agree with the Coach thing. Unfortunately, it can backfire. We moved for a Coach and that Coach left right after tryouts before the Fall season. What we did have going for us---we picked a Club with a very solid coaching/development philosophy and thorough club training and vetting of all coaches hired. The new coach was perfect for our son and we've been really happy. The coaching is about as consistent as it could be taking into account personality differences. We've been happy with all of the coaches my kids have played for (or filled in for when a coach had to be out).

So definitely reach out to coaches---but check out the Club in it's entirety as well. I know our old coach just hired people and they all work pretty independently of each other and the Club. There are drastically different approaches and since kids are passed off one year to the next there is zero consistency.

"old club', not "old coach".

The doctor examines your kid on a Friday. Doctor tells you that the examination revealed that something MAY be wrong or it MAY be just a false positive.

Doctors then tells you to have a good weekend and don't worry about it. Doctor says he will give you the results down the road.

That is what DA tryouts kind of feels like. The anxiety of not knowing is worse than the truth.

You have some serious issues if you are equating a child's health to a soccer tryout. You obviously have never had a child with a major health diagnosis.

It was meant to be a joke. I knew as soon as I wrote that that someone would take it out of context..so sorry to you

That's tryouts are always like for kids who aren't sure they're going to make a team they want to be on. I'm guessing many of the kids trying out for these DA teams probably haven't experienced that feeling before.
