But they are not social distancing. |
My worldview comes from a career of studying terrorism, and yes it is strange because we like to say that these things are ineffective. However, political violence that doesn't kill civilians is incredibly effective at garnering sympathy. So you can say it isn't rational, and it might make you more comfortable to think that the world doesn't reward such behavior, but it does. Their actions are not only rational but politically astute. |
|
Exactly. |
But a civilian WAS killed in this situation and there could have been a lot more. This is too dangerous of a proposition to encourage or condone. It can have endless unintended consequences. |
| Yes, and while that is sad, one accidental death is not likely to make them take a huge reputational hit. They are still net positive by rioting. I think it's sad that it's going on, but most people observing the situation are going to side with the protestors- fires and stolen liquor and all- because of the incredible savagery of the police in the video. We are literally a nation founded on the idea that the State's power should be restrained. This issue will probably quickly be combined with sentiment that the covid response was an overreach-then bam! Bipartisan support. Really, MN should fold. They should fold quickly and deeply because they are 100% screwed. |

Why aren't cops doing their job now?
Should they be fired if it's a waste of taxpayer money? |
You guys, please stop feeding this troll. I could have told you that she is a clueless academic who knows nothing about the real world, or more specifically, law enforcement. I highly doubt most black people are condoning the destruction of a city anyway. It format take many people to set fire, especially when the police are standing down. |
|
Why do they loot and set fires? Because it generates more interest than peaceful protests, and as such makes perfect sense.
For g's sake, nothing else seems to get people's attention to the fact that every black child has to have 'the lecture' from their parents, 'don't talk back, just do what the man says, no matter what they say or do to you just say yes ma'am, yes sir, try not to get them mad'. This country is so off the rails to not immediately arrest the guy who tortured and killed someone, there are any number of witnesses, and yet this man is walking around free, maybe booking a ticket to a safe haven. I'm so sick of these incidents and the stupidity of the cop culture that protects even the most brazen and sickening violence against black people just because someone gave them a badge to wear. |
They are. I live two doors down from the St. Paul Police Chief. They are working hard to use non-violent methods to quell the destruction. |
Hi, I'm not an academic and used to work in law enforcement. Trolls say things to inflame people, which I'm obviously not doing. I'm arguing that the national view will be more sympathetic to the rioters than the government in this case. I mean, look at the Drudge Report right now. It's practically a love letter to the protesters. You might not want to hear these things, but contrary information is often the most valuable. |
| I strongly suspect that undercover cops are involved in the vandalism, easy too since everyone is wearing masks. |
Who is it sympathetic to? Because I can tell you it’s not for me or my family who thinks like me. We represent a large diverse age range. I think they degrade themselves to do that. What is Drudge Report? Is that some far left tv reporting? The news are not facts. People are too afraid to speak because of the backlash. The looti g always gets the message lost. Looting happens in hurricanes etc. they will now be looked at as thugs. Did Floyd actually use a fake bill? That’s all people will be asking. |
