The WaPo article this morning quoted a medical supply distributor who said they have only about 2 weeks left of supplies available. Hope they are ramping up manufacturing, although that's probably in China. |
What now? Nobody said anything about hospital running out of masks. They don't buy masks at target, amazon and so on.. They have their own supplier and hopefully are well stockpiled for events like this. |
Note my followup post about the WaPo article. A hospital supplier. |
What is the activity in DMV? |
Australia now also up to 4 cases. |
I’m impressed by how, in 2020, we are able to respond so rapidly to viral scares such as this. If this was even a decade or two ago, the spread would be much worse. |
LAT article says local risk of transmission is low. |
I just reread it and it doesn't specify hospital supplier. Sorry. Nonetheless, it says extreme shortages within three weeks. Don't know about impact on medical facilities. Are they the same kind of masks or is there a separate hospital grade kind of mask. They are running out of masks in China, and China is now trying to buy them on the international market, per WaPo. |
After losing half of their pigs to disease last year, China's food supply was precarious. Blockading 60 million people will worsen the situation. |
I think this is more of a clever PR trick to make people buy stuff then actual situation. |
I wonder what the global economic ripple effect will be? |
I don't think they need PR to sell masks right now. |
Aren't there some places like FEMA or something alike that should have some stockpile for national needs?
We have people in charge for those things don't we? The contingency plan for national epidemic can not pencil in two weeks of supply of anything, one should hope. |
Amazon has them and a lot. |
This article lists several sources on economic effects of epidemics. Overall personal investing takeaway: short airlines and hotels, buy pharmaceuticals. https://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2020/01/21/business/21reuters-china-health-global-markets-factbox.html |
