Fire in upper NW?

Also, for the poster(s) who say that the perpetrator(s) did not want Mrs. Figueroa to contact her husband on Wednesday evening, because they could not control her message, or understand her Spanish -- I have this question:

Why, then, not have Savvas contact Figueroa's husband directly himself? I suspect that it is because neither Savvas nor the perpetrator(s) could access her husband's phone number at that point (cellphone password).

That suggests to me that Mrs. Figueroa was somehow incapacitated by the time Mr. Savopoulos placed the alleged phonecall to Mrs. Gutierrez. He knew that Mrs. Gutierrez would have Mr. Figueroa's phone number because the women were friends (though, admittedly, I do not have my friends' husbands' phone numbers).

There are certainly clues to be read in the alleged phone calls and text messages, I just do not what those might be.

Because that's also weird, why wouldn't he ask to speak to his wife?

Also, there's a decent chance he doesn't speak English.

I truly hope so. So glad to hear that the Rockville couple murderer has been arrested so the family can have answers.

Easier to just grab the Van Gogh, Strad, etc., and run......no need for a few k from an ATM when millions where literally on the walls. It doesn't add up. Either random home invasion where they didn't know the score they could have walked away with, psycho killers, or something violently personal. Nothing else makes any sense.

Right around the corner from where we live and our children go to school. I have a 9 yo son. I can't imagine the horror. I feel incredibly guilty coming to this site and checking up on the gossip. But I'm doing it.
Does any one else feel what I'm feeling??

Yes, exactly the same.

Sounds like thugs, plain and simple.

It does make sense that the maid was first to die. If the message was left on Wednesday night to say the maid was sleeping there I wonder what time that call was made. It doesn't sound like this was a middle of the night home invasion. I wonder how late the maid normally worked. Do we know when the 2nd maid heard the message and called the husband? It had to have been on Wednesday at a reasonable hour. The husband would've been worried and gone looking for his wife on Wednesday night if not.

Is there mention of Mrs Savopoulos going for money or is that speculation? These criminals no doubt were in that neighborhood before. I doubt they knew the victims. They will be caught. I can't imagine watching another person suffer and not feel anything. Does DC have the death penalty? I hope so.

DC does not have a death penalty.

Why is no one mentioning the martial arts and Mr.Savapoulos interest in knives. This not about the art...the art was worth a couple of 100 thousand at best. No old masters...no abstract expressionists of note. Not a theft a vengeance crime in my opinion.Very frustrating...

He had an interest in knives? I hadn't seen that anywhere.

Art is really hard to turn into cash. A piece is worthless unless it's authenticated, & there's no way to authenticate it w/out revealing that it's stolen. An expensive painting might as well have the legit owner's contact info engraved on it. Thieves don't take art unless they have a buyer already identified who is willing to pay for a specific piece. (I'm not talking out of my hat here -- DH used to work in museum security.)

Google Savvas Savapoulos Martial Arts and see what comes up....he had a passion for it...taught classes at the University Club. Trained in 3 types...violent types involving knives. He followed the teachings of some one that believed in the "Beauty and Grace of Violence." A very strange interest...on one website he challenges someone... I feel the police know this already the crime scene was bloody and the rescue workers knew immediately violent crime scene. I think the boy died of smoke inhalation elsewhere. Maid killed and wife in front of this man. He was killed with martial arts weapon. I know sounds crazy but look at the web and you will see...

Where are you reading information about the art? Art thieves do not operate like this. These people are street rats who want blood. I hope they die a painful death.

I have been in the house and I know my art. The above poster is correct when they say you need buyer and provenance or can not be sold. To anyone. Thomas Crown fictional.

They don't....nor could the bastards who did this have used a gun, because they are illegal in DC as well....and that would be criminal.....

Its a personal choice, but I wish this family had had the choice under DC law to have weapons in their home. They would have had a chance.

I do suspect that the Porsche in Maryland, crossing state lines, makes this federal enough, there will be a death penalty charge somewhere in this if/when they catch this/these people.

Why doesn't DC have home rule? This is why.
