Meanwhile, there are plenty of girls out there quietly showing up, playing lights-out week after week, and somehow never quite making the list. So I was just wondering… are players sent in are club favorites, or are U.S. scouts the ones doing the choosing?
Not trying to stir up trouble, just trying to connect the dots.
It’s mostly club favorites unless there is a clear superstar. But even in that case the superstar will of course also be a coach favorite. There really isn’t much differentiation among players at a club despite parents who think their child is special. Many players are hard working and deserving. The club wants to send players who best represent the club and coaches, and also reward loyal players and families. Sometimes promises are made in order to recruit players to the club or prevent players from leaving.
While the selection process is flawed also realize these selections mean very little in college recruiting. Especially for the younger ages. Everybody knows clubs get invites to hand out and these talent ids are a dime a dozen. Like student of the month at school. For the few special players who are truly at the YNT level, who are selected and attend the regional or national camps, the scouts know who they are already from watching them at showcase events. If you aren’t sure if your child is at that level, then I have to break it to you: they aren’t.
