Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Some portions of the advanced 6th grade math are not providing appropriate differentiated lessons, this doesn’t qualify for level 4. Unfortunately the introduction of algebra resulted in a good number of the AAP kids being underserved academically. It’s a real problem actually. What are you talking about? Can you elaborate? It’s sour grapes. This year they are piloting Algebra 1. Some level IV kids qualified and some didn’t. The ones who didn’t qualify are still getting advanced math (grade level 7) which absolutely is Level IV. I’m guessing PP’s kid didn’t qualify. Womp womp. Don’t go around spreading lies about the level IV program. |

The Navy parents were complaining that the teacher they wanted for advanced math in 6th grade was teaching the AlH section instead and that they don’t like the teacher assigned to 6th grade advanced math.
The A1H thread in the AAP forum had to ask them to move their conversation because the Navy parents were taking it over with the Navy drama and their dislike of the 6thg rade advanced math teacher. |
This is so typical of the Navy AAP parents. They want to have their cake and eat it too. Get used to a different teacher haha. |
Let’s Speak the truth. Kids who didn’t take advanced math last year and didn’t take the 6th grade SOL last year are now in the same class as kids who did take advanced math and the 6th grade SOL. That’s level 3 services. Nothing to do with kids in algebra so let’s not conflate the two. Navy is not providing differentiated lessons at level 4 for 6th grade non algebra math., but good job navy admin for trying to pit the parents against each other when it’s not about that. Let’s talk about how much AAP Kids are having to help their classmates who may not have the same level math last year. |
You are totally wrong. The AAP kids at Navy (Level 4) are split into two math groups now: Algebra 1 and Level 4 AAP math (7th grade math). Both groups are taught by the male AAP math teacher. The gen Ed kids have also been grouped. One group is also doing advanced math (7th grade math) and this is taught by the female gen Ed teacher. She also teaches grade level math to other kids in different sections. Those who qualified for advanced math in Gen Ed are actually getting what’s called Level 2. That’s not Level 3 services at all. You don’t know a thing so stop spewing your nonsense. And fyi, Level 3 is a once a week pull out and can be across different subjects. My kid was in that. |
So that’s your beef. You’re mad because a non AAP kid got into Algebra this year and your AAP kid didn’t. LOL. It’s all based on performance testing. Sorry. You are despicable. It doesn’t matter if a kid didn’t do advanced math last year (they wouldn’t have done it bc they weren’t in AAP). If he/she qualifies for algebra, then they get algebra period. |
Learn to read properly. You lack comprehension. |
Wait, you're mad because there are kids who weren't in AAP last year now in your kid's AAP class? So in your mind, those kids who presumably qualified for the first time in 6th based on test scores/other factors shouldn't be allowed into AAP because they weren't there the year before? What kind of nonsense is this? You're going to have a hard time in middle school when *gasp* former Gen Ed kids are in your precious AAP kid's class! |
What can’t you understand. A kid who took 5th grade math and 5th grade SOL are now in a class with kids who took 6th grade math and the 6th grade SOL. This is not appropriate for a center school. It has nothing to do with non AAP and AAP. It’s a center school that is supposed to provide level 4 services. It’s simple. You don’t have to be mad. Talk factually not emotionally. |
| What is it about this school? Why are the parents insane? |
Or perhaps the admin keeps messing things up. |
This is incorrect. There are two algebra classes taught by one teacher and no separate level 4 class for non algebra AAP kids which is what should have happened and has happened since the 3rd grade. They’ve been grouped with PBL students for math which consists of three groups: AAP kids who have 6th grade math & 6th grade SOLs, PBL Advanced math kids who also took 6th grade math and 6th grade SOLs and kids who’ve taken 5th grade math and 5th grade SOLs. Thats not providing differentiated lessons. It does matter because it’s a center school. So if they choose to no longer provide level 4, then they shouldn’t be considered a center school. Why should a crossfield kid even bother coming to Navy? Perhaps the regional principal can address the issue for the school. |
It's not all of us I promise! Unfortunately certain AAP parents give the whole school a bad reputation. Ironically a lot of them are the ones who came from Crossfield. There are plenty of non-AAP parents whose kids have been at Navy since kindergarten who do not get caught up in the craziness. |
Pretty sure you got the last principal fired, but sure you’ve got a great reputation. It’s ppl like you who continue to divide the community. |
You are the one who is mad, crazy AAP parent. You have no idea what those kids were doing at home. It's highly possible they were always borderline for AAP and doing math work a grade level ahead at an outside place. My kids have multiple non-AAP friends doing just that. I promise your child will overcome the terrible hardship of being in a class with kids who you perceive as academically inferior to yours. |
