I’m not a SFS parent. My children attend a private that isn’t Sidwell nor GDS. Someone posted the 2022 links above, so I decided to crunch the numbers. I prefer facts, not opinions (or “feelings”).

Even worse. Not redeeming yourself here

Lol at the thought that I’m seeking redemption (or approval) on this anonymous chat—from you or anyone else.

SFS, NCS and STA parents are giving private school parents a bad name. Why so upset at the idea that Holton or Walls are having a great year? Or Bullis?

Parents at SFS, NCS, and STA don’t have to do anything to upset other parents (public or private). Apparently, the mere fact that their children attend these schools is triggering and upsetting to SOME parents. These schools, along with GDS, are constant targets of criticism and derision.

This is relatively surprising considering how strong GDS was doing at the start. It looked like GDS would solidly outperform them, but Sidwell is on a hot streak now. Doing very very well at T20s and some strong LACs as well - Pomona, Hamilton, Carleton, Hamilton, Midd

So what?
GDS outperformed Sidwell last year. Holton’s college outcomes are better than NCS this year, based on the instagram posts. Way too soon to call a trend.
The private schools kids will be fine!

GDS did not outperform Sidwell last year. However, the outcomes were much closer than they are this year.

Recollections may vary.

Yes, GDS 22 beat Sidwell 22 hands down.

I disagree.

In 2022, 102 GDS students posted their college destinations. Among GDS seniors, 16 out of 102 (15.6%) were heading to Ivies. In 2022, 8 out of the 62 (12.9%) SFS students who posted went to Ivies. GDS and SFS have around the same number of graduates each year. 15.6% and 12.9% are pretty close—much closer than the difference in 2023. This year, 8 out of 83 (9.6%) GDS students are heading to Ivies so far. In contrast, 13 out of 66 (19.6%) SFS who posted will attend Ivies in the fall.

That is a HUGE difference. Also, SFS sending 20% of its grads to Ivy League schools is objectively impressive.

Uh that’s not the entire class so the percentages are meaningless. Much like this entire debate.

Everyone knows, or should know, that the entire class doesn’t post. However, about half the class for both SFS and GDS posted in 2022 and 2023.

Don’t tell me tell the person impressed by SFS sending 20% of its grads to Ivy League schools based on half the class listing.

Over half of 2023 Sidwell grads have posted this year. I’d say that the 20% of those heading to Ivies, who have posted this far, are a good representation of the entire class. Further, if there are zero additional Sidwell students attending Ivies this fall (which isn’t the case), the students who already posted represent 10% of the entire class. That’s still pretty good.

So do you think the students not attending one of those 8 collleges are not good?

Whatever. It’s a poor use of statistics no matter your double top secret knowledge is.

Once NCS posts the entire class, I think your opinion may change. My DD is reporting a ton of impressive admits in RD, which haven’t shown up on Instagram yet. They just started posting. Tough results in the early rounds, but NCS seems to have done really well in the end.

Yes this. They did exceptionally well in regular decision admissions.

Seems like NCS, Sidwell and Holton all "won" this year.

There are so many nuances to these lists. If the kids seem excited to go where they headed, that is good enough for me.

And Holton did not outperform NCS this year—lots of Holton’s good results are only due to athletic commits.

If you think a student gets into an Ivy league "only due to athletics," you really have no idea what it takes to be a student athlete. Sounds like NCS was the better fit for you and your child, where balancing athletics and academics isn't taught or learned.

New poster. I admire the Holton girls who are student athletes, but to devolve into slinging mud at NCS seems churlish. There are girls from NCS on athletic scholarships as well and girls at both NCS and Holton work their tails off. No need to sling mud at each other.

This thread is so embarrassing. I mean, most of them are but this one? Man.

Holton was extremely impressive.
