Ok, but we are at this weird point in the DMV where most of us are just following others and making out of respect, when those people are often doing the exact same. I’ve heard people say they’re masking grocery shopping out of respect for the masked workers, when at many stores the workers are encouraged to keep masking out of respect for the customers! Round and round in the echo chamber we go. |
Does the science say masks are harmful? |
people (on both sides) who say this cherry pick the "science" so that it syncs up with their sentiments. |
Following CDC guidance is cherry-picking? Ok. |
| Now that people have home tests the government doesn't really know how many people have covid. |
| Why should it bother you what others do? People have their reasons and after two years, some will always wear a mask in public places because their thinking has shifted. |
Actually they do know COVID rates in the municipalities submitting wastewater data. The CDC has the data available online. It’s been in the news for a couple of weeks now that cases are going up in 28 cities according to wastewater data. https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#wastewater-surveillance |
It's interesting to see people get defensive about masking after the last two years. It's effectively been admitted that most masks we wore for two years did very little, which is surely one of the reasons why Fauci himself initially said it wasn't necessary
No one likes admitting they were lied to for a long time and based their behaviors and beliefs on what was barely anything more than speculation. Many people's responses to COVID became very political and part of their own identities and notion of self-worth. |
| I’ve stopped even though the vast majority in my grocery store are masked. The other non masked are mostly young people. I have a baby and I like her to see my face. I’ll follow any guidance from any government entity or store that asks me to mask, but non are. If cases go up I’ll happily wear one. |
| Stopped a month ago, but have a cold so am wearing one until the cold passes (yes I tested for covid). |
It's wonderful, isn't it? |
NP but I am a teacher and at least 25% of my students got Covid in December. I thought it was masks that prevented me from getting it after so much exposure but is it just dumb luck that I didn’t get it? My blood type? I’ve never worn a KN95 and most of students don’t either. |
I'd like to know this too- at this point I know several families where 1-2 members of the household got Covid and the rest didn't. Living in the same house and making no effort to isolate from eachother or mask. |
+2 nailed it |
Thank you for doing that. Have noticed a lot of the few unmasked ppl visibly ill lately (wiping noses, hacking cough) and I appreciate your respectful gesture during this bizarre time. |
