When are you going to stop wearing masks indoors (stores, etc)

But if I am in an environment where people are obviously uncomfortable being unmasked or being around unmasked people, I put it on. No big deal.

Ok, but we are at this weird point in the DMV where most of us are just following others and making out of respect, when those people are often doing the exact same. I’ve heard people say they’re masking grocery shopping out of respect for the masked workers, when at many stores the workers are encouraged to keep masking out of respect for the customers! Round and round in the echo chamber we go.

Going to stores is an awfully low-risk activity. What do you during activities that involve higher-risk exposures, such as family gatherings, daycare, and school? Work might be another another, depending on what you do.

Most maskers aren't being logical about masking. They won't wear masks around visiting family or close friends because we all know, deep inside, you don't get COVID from family and friends. But a stranger at a supermarket who is 20 feet away from you? Get out the biohazard suits!

It's human psychology. We build artificial barriers and assumptions and beliefs in our minds because it's the only way we feel we have a grip on the situation and a sense of control. Most of it is ultimately false, of course, just as wearing flimsy cloth masks for nearly two years was just theatre, but it made you *feel good*.

And in the DMV it's also heavily tied to virtue signaling, even if it is subconsciously done.

LOL. You act like the anti-maskers aren't signaling their views by their bravado and cries of "but my rights." Ok, Jan.

No, just following science.

Does the science say masks are harmful?

people (on both sides) who say this cherry pick the "science" so that it syncs up with their sentiments.

Following CDC guidance is cherry-picking? Ok.

Now that people have home tests the government doesn't really know how many people have covid.

Why should it bother you what others do? People have their reasons and after two years, some will always wear a mask in public places because their thinking has shifted.

Actually they do know COVID rates in the municipalities submitting wastewater data. The CDC has the data available online. It’s been in the news for a couple of weeks now that cases are going up in 28 cities according to wastewater data.

Why do you care? MYOB and STFU about it. Stop lecturing people (and that goes both ways). You don't NEED to understand their decisions. You don't NEED to explain your position to people. You don't NEED to engage at all on this issue. Just shut up.

It's interesting to see people get defensive about masking after the last two years. It's effectively been admitted that most masks we wore for two years did very little, which is surely one of the reasons why Fauci himself initially said it wasn't necessary

No one likes admitting they were lied to for a long time and based their behaviors and beliefs on what was barely anything more than speculation. Many people's responses to COVID became very political and part of their own identities and notion of self-worth.

I’ve stopped even though the vast majority in my grocery store are masked. The other non masked are mostly young people. I have a baby and I like her to see my face. I’ll follow any guidance from any government entity or store that asks me to mask, but non are. If cases go up I’ll happily wear one.

Stopped a month ago, but have a cold so am wearing one until the cold passes (yes I tested for covid).

NP but I am a teacher and at least 25% of my students got Covid in December. I thought it was masks that prevented me from getting it after so much exposure but is it just dumb luck that I didn’t get it? My blood type? I’ve never worn a KN95 and most of students don’t either.

I'd like to know this too- at this point I know several families where 1-2 members of the household got Covid and the rest didn't. Living in the same house and making no effort to isolate from eachother or mask.

Thank you for doing that. Have noticed a lot of the few unmasked ppl visibly ill lately (wiping noses, hacking cough) and I appreciate your respectful gesture during this bizarre time.
