“ Each public school within Fairfax County and each cooperating school division will be presumptively allocated a number of seats equal to 1.5% of that school’s 8th grade student population (“Allocated Seats”). The remainder of seats will not be allocated to any specific public school (“Unallocated Seats”). In the event a school has fewer eligible applicants than its number of Allocated Seats, the difference will be treated as Unallocated Seats”

Will all the unallocated seats be secretly allocated to the rich schools like Longfellow and Cooper?

I think that's the plan at least what the prep centers have been lobbying for...

Lobbying? How so?

They don’t need to lobby because every system FCPS comes up with can be gamed.

Generous donations to the board of education campaigns. You do know dark money is all the rage these days, and this is a multimillion-dollar business.

FCPS doesn't have a "Board of Education" so that tells me right there you are clueless and posting from another jurisdiction.

NP... I'm not going to name them individually, but that's the 12 members of the Fairfax County School Board (as it says on the page). The Board of Education is a statewide body under VDOE that has 9 members who are appointed by the Governor (and confirmed by the General Assembly). They're completely different things.

So FCPS has a board of education and you're just attempting to discount another's argument with semantics. Got it.

Not PP but the point was more about whether you even live here and have FCPS kids. Everyone calls it the school board not “board of Ed”.

Apparently not everybody does. I went to FCPS K-12 and had no idea this was true.

DP.

Point is: there is at least one PP commenting here who apparently does not even live in the Commonwealth.

Notice she has not denied that accusation?

So to that PP:

Why are you participating in this thread? Please explain your angle here. Lobbyist maybe?

Yep, once the battle lines get drawn, the partisans on both sides living all over the country can't resist.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are stuck funding this nonsense and dealing with the fall-out from a SCHOOL BOARD so pre-occupied with the admissions policies at one magnet high school that it ignores most of the almost-200 other schools in the district. These people suck.

I am the PP and I agree with about the SB 100%. They are all democrats and simply horrible people, including one who repeatedly uses the R-word, yet refuses to resign.

BTW, my own child applied to TJ out of Longfellow MS, and was wait-listed. Mixed blessing, as my child was not fully invested in going to TJ.

^^^ we are not Asian, BTW. But I am no less offended by the bigotry and blatant racism of the current SB. Why they have not all resigned in shame is beyond me.

Really? I think they're great. They are the first school board to fight on behalf of all children to ensure these special programs aren't just limited to wealthy schools where parents buy their children outside enrichment.

Although that may be true, many posters preferred the old system where they could buy their way into TJ.
