Capital attends the best recruiting tournaments including the g8 that stars and pride and nc elite are not invited to, has the best brand and Gussie is very well respected.
I would agree with this…. Capital is not strong their freshman year but the 26 orange team is still ranked much higher than other local A teams and also has the Capital brand behind them
There isn’t one college coach out there that cares how a club team is ranked freshman year. Go to Capital Orange - do the work- get better and get seen sophomore year when it counts and you’re playing YJ, Mass Elite, etc. Pride is NEVER in the brackets with the top teams and often not invited to the biggest tournaments.
For those who have DDs wanting to play in college simply go with the club that will provide your DD the opportunity to play the best teams. College coaches will not care about wins or losses, they will want to see a competitive game and how your DD performs agains this competition.
Do your homework, look at past schedules and performance of clubs, ask club directors what their plan is for scheduling and what commitment they are making to building a competitive team.
Be careful of misinformed posters like the one above who could have easily disproven their own post with a simple Google search. For example, just two years ago Pride’s 2023 team played the second toughest schedule in the country. The top three were:
1. Yellow Jackets
2. Pride Black
3. Capital Blue
I’m not advocating for Pride or against Capital. But to state Pride NEVER plays top teams or in top brackets is not an accurate statement.
Again, having a daughter playing in college, if provided options, go with the club that will play the best competition.
What source did you use to source the schedule strength of the teams you cite here?
Is there a way to find out where the 23/24 Pride Black girls got recruited to vs. Capital?
Inside Lacrosse maintains a database - but it may not be up to date. Interesting still...
https://www.insidelacrosse.com/recruiting/girls
Or check numerous threads on dcum where this topic has been discussed to death. Long and short is capital did/does much better in recruiting than Pride.
Agree….separate threads cover this in detail. Capital Blue 23 > Pride Black 23
Not to mention….Pride Black 23 parents managed most of their own recruiting.
But, not a relevant comparison. Seems like the Pride 27 team is pretty much disbanded….
Agree with this post. Comparing the two is apples to oranges. Established recruiting history compares to one with zero experience.
As a PP noted both teams played tough schedules. Looking at US Club Lax the point differential for both teams their last season was +/- .5, so both were competitive teams in top brackets.
The recruiting experience of Capital and the lack of Pride’s was the difference for that class.
Can’t really compare those two 23 teams based on their final season. Pride Black was still fighting to get girls recruited while Capital Blue had most of the team committed by the start of the fall season. Big difference between playing inspired to get committed and simply playing to enjoy the last lap with teammates (and to avoid injury) after verbals are made. It’s why you often see Capital teams peak their second year when it really counts and trail their third year. Third year at Capital is pretty laid back because most Cap Blue teams are committed by the time their final season even begins. Curious what any comparison would be between both teams in their second years - though I wonder how accurate these stats even are.
Really not much difference between these teams in their second year. Capital finished ranked 12th and Pride 17th. Capital had the 5th SoS and Pride the 13th. Both clubs competed in top brackets. Average goal differential that year was Capital +.5 and Pride +.8, so both teams were very competitive against the best teams.
Really the difference between the two teams in this class came down to Capitals long recruiting experience and Pride having none.
Here are the stats:
Capital Blue 23 v Pride Black 23
Year = ‘20 / ‘21
Rank = 12th (vs 17th)
Goal differential = 19 (vs 22)
Schedule strength = 5th (vs 13th)
Year = ‘21 / ‘22
Rank = 15th (vs 24th)
Goal differential = 13 (vs -15)
Schedule strength = 3rd (vs 2nd)
- PP notes the similarity of the goal differential during the ‘21 /‘22 campaign but that’s a false comparison given Capital’s far tougher schedule (ranked 5th) vs Pride’s much weaker schedule (ranked 13th) that year.
- Pride Black 23 fell 7 spots its third year (17th to 24th) when it faced a much tougher SOS (13th to 2nd). This was the year the team needed to compete at its highest level to try and get players committed after a disappointing post-Sept 1st recruiting performance.
- Capital Blue 23 fell just 3 spots its third year (12th to 15th) when faced with a slightly tougher schedule (5th to 3rd) of comparable strength to Pride Black 23 (3rd vs 2nd SOS, respectively). This was the year the team was nearly fully committed to D1 schools by mid October and no longer had anything to prove. The team played the year less inspired as the job was done for most of the players before the year began. Yet the team still performed better than Pride Black 23 that year evidenced by ranking and goal differential metrics.
- Capital Blue 23 beat Pride Black 23 8-5 when the two teams went head-to-head their third year (‘21 / ‘22).
- A PP claimed Pride Black ‘23 was ranked 8th by Lacrosse Magazine its first year (‘19 / 20). Please provide a link to this reference (couldn’t find it).
- Even if true this would mean Pride Black 23 went from #8 to #17 to #24 over its three-year term.
- Capital Blue 23 went from being non top 20 to #12 to #15 over the three-year stretch. Like everything in life, business and politics, it’s not how you start but how you finish that counts.
Posters have said the two teams were equally matched talent-wise and that the recruiting performance was the only differentiator. But Capital Blue 23:
- ranked higher than Pride Black 23 in years 2 and 3 when it mattered;
- was better developed (evidenced by ranking improvement from year 1 to year 2 and sustained top-15 ranking into year 3 compared to Pride Black 23’s three-year slide that nearly put the team out of the top 25 by its final season);
- performed better playing a significantly tougher schedule in year 2 and a comparable schedule to Pride Black 23 in year 3 when Pride needed to peak and Capital could coast.
- had a +28-goal differential in year 3 playing nearly the same schedule (3rd vs 2nd SOS) with recruiting already done for most / all players. Every goal in this differential takes on considerably greater weight given the extremely difficult schedules both teams faced that year.
- beat Pride Black 23 head-to-head in year 3;
Pride Black 23 was a good team with some great players. These teams were not evenly matched.
