Diet, Nutrition & Weight Loss
Steak doesn't make them fat. It's all the other carbs they eat with it (potatoes, bread, dessert) that makes them fat. |
| I live in an UMC area and just about everyone I interact with is UMC. Most of them are fat. Obesity is not a problem confined to the LMC and poor. |
Right. So back to the original thread point… People like easy, fast, tasty food that doesn’t require any work from them and the cheaper the better. This rings true no matter income level. These types of food are everywhere, on every corner store, in every neighborhood- which is why there is an obesity problem. Heathy foods are available too- but people pick junk OVER heathy food time and time again. So yes, it does take work, discipline, and deliberate decisions about what you are eating to stay heathy and within a heathy weight range. To say it doesn’t (for the majority of people) is a lie to make yourselves feel better about the current state of your weight/health that resulted from choices you made either in the past for many years or the present |
The thread is about thin dcum pps looking down at overweight people and judging their morality and worth ethnic and all of their life choices. Based on their weight. |

I think it’s likely a combination of:
- food that is designed to be as addictive as possible (there’s an entire science dedicated to this) - our culture places a high value on consumption, so going out, eating, drinking, etc. - valuing worker productivity and spending most of your hours at the office, while devaluing traditionally “female” tasks like cooking meals, so there is less time and incentive to cook at home - society is designed so that people move as little as possible, again valuing worker productivity. - lack of basic nutritional education, especially in a way that can be applied to daily life. It amazes me how many people don’t know what protein or carbs are, despite being well-educated. My xH had multiple advanced degrees but still thought eating three plates from the salad bar, smothered in bacon and cheese and dressing, was healthy because it’s “salad”. - lack of cooking skills. Most of the people I know don’t know how to cook well, especially men. There are exceptions (my dad is better than most professional chefs), but most men I know are clueless when it comes to cooking and will prefer to pick up fast food or buy those pre-made frozen meals. Or they would rather spend their time watching tv, playing video games, etc instead of cooking. - the mutli billion dollar diet industry, which profits off of the restriction-binge cycle. You buy the latest fad diet, which usually includes calorie and/or food restriction, fail, binge eat, and regain the weight plus extra. Then it’s onto the next fad. Research shows that restriction almost always ends up in failure and regaining more weight, because our bodies just aren’t built for calorie restriction and freak out. Better to build sustainable habits, but that’s harder to sell. I remember reading about a study that found when people pick up candy or chips that are right next to the checkout line, they don’t even consciously think about it. It’s basically a reflex. So often we aren’t even making conscious choices, and the food industry exploits that to sell more. We say that people are making good/bad choices, but often, it’s not a choice at all. I’ve struggled with food addiction my entire life and it’s easy to say make better choices, but often I feel completely out of control of my eating. I constantly binge in secret. To make it worse, I’m naturally thin, and I eat healthy food when around others, so people use me as the poster child of making healthy food choices. When in reality, I’ll go home and eat an entire pizza and carton of ice cream and feel like I have no control over myself. I think the only way to really combat this is to put strict regulations in place for junk food and how it can be formulated and sold. Manufacturing food to make it hyper-palatable is just as bad as manufacturing addictive drugs IMO. I think society also needs to place a higher value on cooking, and give people the time and skills to cook at home. Men also need to step it up. I remember reading that in the Blue Zones, men live as long as women do because women do all the cooking, ensuring that their male family members eat well. If a male doesn’t have a wife to cook for him, his health deteriorates. We need to value men cooking for themselves and their families. |
You mean like how OP judges all thin people and thinks she's reading their minds? In OPs world every time a thin person exercises they are doing it to lord it over and rub it in the face of the overweight. There can be no other reason. |
I also read a study that said that this phenomenon (the bolded checkout line one) has been in declines since the advent and further development of the smart phone. It was so interesting to me. Because people are on their phones while waiting to check out, they don't even see the candy anymore. It's a battle of the addictions - phone vs candy! |
Steak contributes probably much more than carbs might. I also object to your constant use of the word "fat." It is rude and insulting. |
Please! I judge you for using the word fat over and over and over...And in my OP I clearly said some thin people on dcum. Read it again. |
I'm not reading your silly diatribe again. And show me where I used "fat"? I specifically used "overweight". I'm not the only poster here. I'm judging you for being such a moron at this point. |
What is your reason for doing it? |
Because I like to push my body to the limits to see what it's capable of. If I'm running I want to improve my time from the last run. I've only got a few years left before its all downhill due to age. I also want to keep up with my kids and be active with them and its no fun if I have to crap out and take a rest when we are hiking together. It helps me feel younger and not my real age. That's it. |
DP. You are so bizarrely weird with your obsession with your obese aquaintances who are doctors/professionals and go to Disney World and cruises. You mention them in every thread about weight on DCUM; your posts are instantly recognizable because they use the exact same example every time, and I don't even read all these trainwreck threads. You come across as deeply sick and twisted, enough so that I sometimes worry whether your acquaintances are safe from harm from you. You are obsessed in a way that is disturbing. |
As someone who grew up poor and was poor for my first two years post college, I can assure you that it is cheaper to buy groceries and cook than to get fast food, despite what anyone claims. A fast food meal on Friday nights was my "expensive splurge" for the week on Friday nights. |
Yep. OP the only one who cares or thinks about your weight and why it is what it is, is you. Maybe your spouse.. |
