RM Cluster Overcrowding?

Shifting IB out or putting Beall outside of RM... For just building more condos?

Their views are actually not pro-development. Their views are simply building more condos. Pro development will look like making sure that we have enough school capacity, enough public facility, enough roads etc.

I do see if citizens don't speak up, RM cluster is going to get destroyed.

But putting Twinbrook outside of RM is ok?

Shift IB out.

Put TB ES outside of RM cluster.

Redraw boundaries by doing something else to make room for additional condos supported by our council member Mark Pierzchala.

We should forget about kids education and simply do a policy change to build more.

How about putting Beall ES outside of RM cluster?

Beall is not on edge of RM cluster. CG is on north edge. CG can be put outside of RM cluster.

TB is though better candidate. TB wants lots of grocery shops and condos there. RM can't afford it so TB is better off in Woodward or Wheaton HS cluster and then TB can build lots of condos.

Sure it is - it's on the eastern edge. Beall has Rockville Town Center, and that's one of the places contributing to the projected increase over 120% of capacity. Rezone Beall to Rockville HS.

Agree with this. There are two major areas for additional housing. Beall and TB. MCPS should look at shifting one of them out of RM cluster. I think Wheaton and Rockville high schools are nearby. It will require considering some other HS as well. Hopefully, MCPS does a county wide boundary soon and adjust RM to bring it in 80-100% range.

I am not sure if there is empty seats in Rockville HS. Wheaton HS will have some empty seats, but enough to take one ES.

I think it's a great idea to explore, but some portion of Wheaton and Rockville has to move to make room for Beall/TB ES. After this move, enough condos can be built on these ES zone without making overcrowding worse in RM.

Otherwise taking out IB magnet is the best option available here. Immediately RM will drop down below 100%.

Developer who testified and trying to push was making a case for building more in TB zone. Same developer stated that 80% of his development in that area will go to WJ(future Woodward). It may make sense to shift entire TB to Woodward or Wheaton. That way more condos can be built in TB.

Moving Beall out should be looked as well, but there was no developer lobbying for building in Beall zone. I guess each community has to decide for themselves what they want. They want more condos or good education. I am in RP and I don't want more condos anywhere. I want minimum decent education for my kids. 120% itself is pretty bad, let's not make it worse by making a policy change to build lots of condos in RM cluster.

Something has to be done about the siitaution if citizens simply wants more condos.

Much of Beall is walkzone to RM. sorry people but Beall will never be removed from it. CG, RP, and TB ES’s are all bussed in.

Simple equation here.

More condos resulting in overcrowding worse in schools

Or

No additional condos and simply stick with current policy.

More condos can't come without taking out IB magnet or moving Beall/TB to Rockville HS or Wheaton HS. It will be an inevitable outcome and eventually it will happen.

Crown is not coming online before 10 years so we can't have generations of kids having subs standard environment in RM. RM c can't wait for crown is we want to make a policy change to build more condos. RM boundary has to change or IB magnet has to go out.

Nobody's wanting to build at Rockville Town Center?

Well, then TB is only candidate left to move. After moving TB citizens can have all the condos they want.

CG and RP is waiting for crown and it will take 10 years before we see crown. If TB moves now then CG and RP doesn't need to move to crown in future.

I call it "housing", because it is housing

The Crown HS won't take any longer to build than the additional housing.

I suspect there are interested developer for TC as well, but as pointed out by some one , most of Beall area is walk zone to RM. So Beall can't be moved so easily. Having said that I know some cases where despite being close to on HS, students go to another HS.

I'm wondering - are you zoned for Twinbrook?

Since when does Wooton have 600 extra seats? It should really go to Crown making less disruption for neighborhoods..like Chinese Immersion moved from College Gardens to Baynard leaving most of the CG boundaries in tact.

The IB program at RM is part of the school's fabric at this point. Sure, it's overcrowded but would make more since to adjust it's boundaries if needed than remove an integral program that's successful and fully staffed.

The magnet is pretty self contained. Unlike the Blair magnet the RMIB kids take all academic classes seperately. RM could continue to offer a regular IB program like Rockville HS and BCC.

With Magnet RM was rated at 56 percentile in MD. Where we will land if magnet is out of RM? 30??20??

The magnet is not bringing up the rest if the school. Whatever the non magnet scores are now will not change.

Crown won't be here for the next 10 years. Additional condos or housing can be built if and when capacity in school exist. It will be crazy to approve more housing when school is already at 120%.

Condos don't take 10 years to build.

Acadmic scores is surely going up due to magnet. You can debate how much , but there is no denying that it is going up due to magnet.
