Is he lying though? Once you leave the northeast, the country looks very scary.

Yes, he is lying. Despite trump, our cities are very desirable places to live and work and they are the economic engine of the country. So when he sends ICE to our cities, which push kids out of schools and business to shutter, it slows our economy down. And yes, people are struggling. And it is worse now than under the democrats, uless you are one of the billionaires. Trump told you what he was going to do and you voted for him anyhow.

The murder rate in DC is down literally 63% compared to last year. This is the DCUM forum. How can you say it was better to live in a place with a 63% worse murder rate?

https://mpdc.dc.gov/dailycrime

Moreover, even mainstream like the Washington Post are reporting that crime is down nationwide by staggering margins. How is this not a good thing?

MAGA said we couldn't trust local police crime stats or MSM sources, so I don't know what to believe about crime stats.

But even if you believe crime is much lower, have you considered the cost? And whether or not it is sustainable?

If you believe it's due to the presence of the NG in DC, consider these stats:

*The NG mission costs roughly $1.1 million to $1.65 million daily.
*Over $330 million has been spent on the NG deployment to DC in the first seven months.
*The cost could exceed $600 million if extended through August 2026, which is comparable to the entire annual operating budget of the DC Metro police department.

If you believe it's due to the "surge" of federal officers reassigned to DC duty, well that costs approximately $1 million per day for the "proactive collaboration" of federal agencies, including the FBI, DEA, ATF, and U.S. Marshals. And if these agents are working on crime in DC, what are they NOT working on?

Why are Dems such fiscal conservatives when it comes to staving off Black deaths? The NG has let to dozens more people not being killed and a murder rate so low that 2026 might be the lowest murder rate in DC in recorded history. I’d say not having a city that’s known as the murder capital of the world, like it was in the 90s when there were 500 murders a year, is a national security issue. I have no idea why this is a partisan issue and Dems would be happy with saying some money but having a dramatic uptick in murders.

You can treat crime at the source by ensuring school meals, wrap around services, apprenticeships and educational opportunities and so on that does more to address system crime and poverty than surging police. Both are helpful, but the GOP ignores one completely. also, as a PP noted, what is not being investigated and patrolled by having the surge here? For one, the pedophiles and white collar crimes that the GOP and Oligarchs are inflicting on our country.

No one has answered the question of how a NG program that costs $1-1.6 million a day is SUSTAINABLE in the LONG TERM? Do you have any thoughts on that? I mean, if it takes the presence of 2700 troops on the streets in DC every day to keep it safe, that doesn't seem like a feasible long-term solution. I've lived in several authoritarian countries with a large police and military presence on the streets and crime is definitely lower, but I don't think most Americans think that the permanent presence of troops on our streets is the ideal solution to solving crime in the long-term.

In the speech last night, Trump implied he would institute a new federal $1,000 retirement savings match. Actually, it's kicking in next year. Passed under BIDEN, it is means tested and will help those folks very little--$1,000 is peanuts. US govt now spends $500B a year on retirement tax breaks, mostly for the rich.

It was already on a downward trajectory from when trump left office in 2021. The continuing improvement has nothing to do with more federal presence.

You know you can actually see year by year murder numbers at the bottom of that page that was linked right?

There were 116 murders in 2017, in the 200s from 2021 to 2023 (peaking with 274 in 2023). In 2025 it dropped drastically to 127 and we are on pace to be way below 100 by year end (we have 10 murders year to date).

As someone who lives and works in DC I am not going to slight this progress. If the 2026 murder totals are less than 88 it will be the lowest murder rate in DC since at least the 1970s.

Yes, you are making my point. Crime spiked under Trump and in the aftermath of COVID and is coming back to where it would have been if not for COVID.

Trump was president in 2023?! Wow. And I thought Q Anon followers were crazy.

dems not standing for americans will hurt them in the midterm and I suspect they will need a presidential candidate who puts amerricans first with a reimagined ICE.

A dem president putting illegals at the same level of citizens AND abolishing ICE wont win a national

No one’s losing an election just because they didn’t stand up when Stephen Miller told them to.

He should have stuck with TV because he absolutely sucks at being an American or a President.

lol the party who elected a convicted felon who went on to pardon a drug lord should keep quiet about “respecting the rule of law.”

We are the only Americans left and we are the party of family values. You MAGAs are just isolating yourselves on a political Epstein island.
