Hegseth's Grand Summoning

I would've been so pi$$ed. I don't blame them for just keeping their heads down to keep their pensions. But, gawd, how galling.

Don’t mistake heads down for acquiescence. Most of them were probably working extremely hard not to show how pissed off they were or laugh at the stupidity of the whole act. They know the cameras are rolling and maintaining a neutral expression was critical.

OMG! In every clip I heard except one, he was talking about how awful Biden and Obama were and how great he is. Why does he think anyone wants to hear that?! The whining is so, so tiresome.

Because Trump is so toxic, unevolved, narcissistic, disordered, and such an un-self-aware idiot, Biden/Obama/every single other one of his "enemies" live rent-free in his mind and he cannot get past it. Can you imagine walking around like that every day of your life with all of the people you hate absolutely filling your every thought to the point you talk about it constantly and you expend all of your energy focusing on it? Pathetic. Loser.

Imagine being born into wealth, being handed admission to one of the best schools in the country, then, despite having zero qualifications, becoming president of the US, and STILL stomping your feet all the time about everything being “unfair”. Loser. Deep down, to his bones.

It’s the dementia. Hyper fixation on nonsense.

Why does everyone have to make an excuse for him? While he may have dementia, it is not a fact.

What is a fact? He’s a self-centered, dumb turd who likes to hear his own voice.

Yes. He’s always been a dumb turd, an conman, and a narcissist. He’s just losing some of his filter now so the BS flows in a less linear way.

oh I know. I'm saying that they didn't want to show how disgusted they were with this whole thing to keep their pensions safe, and I don't blame them.

It was an embarrassing failure. They completely humiliated and discredited themselves in front of that audience.

They should be ashamed of themselves but I'm pretty sure narcissists don't shame easily.

They don’t have enough self-awareness to be ashamed.

And for Hegseth, it was 100% about being a dead end Major in the reserves and getting a chance to act like he was in charge of all those stars. I promise you that even if one of them is MAGA, they don’t respect Hegseth or think he has any credibility. He’s an insult to the entire DoD. He is the worst, most incompetent and obnoxious guy in your unit who drives everyone else nuts.

Yeah, well, they voted for Trump and shouldn’t be surprised when he put someone like Kegseth in charge. What were they expecting?

Most of the people in the audience likely didn’t vote at all. Surely you noticed their poker faces. These are people who take their apolitical responsibility very seriously. They will vote when they retire.

I know people in the military. Both enlisted and officers are overwhelmingly republican. The generals voted for Trump and would again. I have no doubt they hated yesterday's show, but they think most of the political oversight they are under is ridiculous and time wasting. They were told by the pentagon to be stone-faced and they were. Graduating cadets hear the same tired speech (trump only has one speech) and cheer madly.

The generals aren't going to save us. Rich powerful institutions - big law, universities, large corporations -- aren't going to save us. It's been amazing to watch the capitulations. Turns out all that money and power does not make you able to fight - it makes you willing to do anything to maintain all that money and power.

The only thing that will save us is us, and the only thing that has worked in recent history - in the Philippines and Poland etc -is a color revolution. We have to flood the streets in our X color shirts and demand new elections (when the 2026 or 2028 ones are rigged or when the congress refuses to seat the winners etc.). Be ready.

You know people in the military!!!!????

I lived on military bases around the world for 25 years and I was married to a general. Nearly everyone in my life for decades was “in the military”.

You are a teenage troll. You have no idea what the training and ethics and professionalism is like.

It’s not about their pensions. It’s just professionalism. An apolitical military is essential to democracy and this is part of their training.

MAGA trolls insist that the military is MAGA as an “appeal to authority”. It’s just not true.

He’s a horrible person and a waste of perfectly good carbon. There isn’t a single redeeming thing about this man.

But there is no disputing it - he is fully demented now. The GOP was projecting as usual during the Biden years. He’s a crap your pants, heart is giving out, doesn’t know where he is, fully incapacitated blob.

The upside is that the military is going to hate these two clowns even more than they already do.

The military now has new nicknames for Trump and Hedgehog because of how badly they bombed in Quantico:

"Fat Man and Little Boy"

Funny but maybe not, given that those bombs killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians.

They were very stoic. The listened to the lectures - as they had to. But they made it deeply uncomfortable for Hegseth and Trump with their complete silence.

And looking at the pictures. Very interesting. These are American generals and admirals in their 50s and 60s. They are very good at expressing contempt - silently.

Being lectured to by a national guard f-up must of been something for these military leaders. Hegseth is a mediocre NG officer that doesn't even have a tab, which is unheard of for senior infantry officers.

For all his big talk about fitness, Hegseth was probably the only Army guy in the room without a Rangers tab. And he's definitely the only person in that room that insists on having a powder and makeup room for his public appearances.

All in all, a good show for the military. And Hegseth in particular came across as weak and pathetic as he always does. And Trump continued to do Trump things.

I think these officers felt a lot of responsibility in the moment. The mediocrity in the civilian leadership is breathtaking.

Hard to say which is worse: having to listen to the National Guard washout or Private Bone Spurs, who has never known a day of delayed gratification.

I really hoped one of those military leaders would take one for the team.
