Tuckahoe Boots Machine

Exactly. Why should I be paying more for the same coaching? And will attention be given to non Tuckahoe swimmers?

It does make sense for Tuckahoe swimmers since they don’t pay full price but as a non Tuckahoe parent the discount annoys me and makes me less likely to consider a switch.

I get the annoyance. I want to offer, however, that our team practices out of a private swim and rec club. Because it is private, as a condition of joining the team, our swimmers must pay for a (discounted) membership. Because we already had a membership, we did not pay the fee, so it looks on paper like we are getting a reduced rate, when we really are probably paying a bit more than swimmers who only pay for one under 18 membership. I’m wondering if this is the case with Hydra/Tuckahoe.

If hydra is its own entity, that is a USA swim club simply renting space from a private club for its practices then in terms of discounts it should not matter which summer swim club you swim for. When it was run by machine there was not a discount for Tuckahoe members.

Ahhh, yes, I see the point. Unlike the private swim and rec center where our team practices (which does not have any kind of summer league team and which is open to anyone to join), Tuckahoe swim club members get a reduced rate that is not tied to any membership fee otherwise required of all Hydra swimmers (especially since Tuckahoe is on a waitlist and cannot take new members). Yeah. That’s suspect and not okay.

For all the posts of championship meets, that's not a huge priority for this swimmer. Nice to have another option that fits the schedule well.

This is such a bot post and I don’t buy that you are really a machine parent who is switching. Machine hasn’t even put out their new schedule yet so how do you know hydra is better? And with the excepting of afternoon practices for seniors the hydra schedule is pretty much the same as what Machine had.

So I'm the bot parent. As I said, the schedule is more convenient and allows for multiple sports. Yes, I'm specifically talking about senior swimming afternoons/evenings.

If not a bot then not that the Machine Chesterbrook schedule is out and includes a lot more senior afternoon options are you still switching?

Yes, we are still switching to Hydra. I was impressed with Machine's expanded offer for older kids in afternoons and evenings and can't help but wonder if it was to compete with Hydra. The Machine price tag of $3500 for two nights per week was definitely more than the Hydra price of $2100 for the same. I liked that there was a non-competitive option for just 1 night a week as well.

Glad there are more options for swimmers in the area.

Laughing at how clearly this is NOT an actual parent. Conveniently not mentioning the other fees…. So obvious.

Yeah so I'm the parent who posted this. My bad for not doing all the research for other parents and explaining everything--not sure that's my job. I looked at the Machine offering for senior kids 2 nights per week which was $3440. Then I looked at Hydras offering for a senior kid swimming two nights per week, which was $2100. I did not mention registration fees, nor the meet sign up fees, or include any discounts that were offered for siblings or anything else. I also didn't articulate whether Machine is offering an hour of swim and half hour of drylands or an hour and a half of swimming. I didn't mention whether I would get a free t-shirt or swimsuit with registration either.

Holy cow people, relax.

I explained my thoughts because someone asked if we were still switching. Yes, we are. I also explained that I was impressed with some of the expanded Machine schedule, but that isn't changing our minds at this stage. My kid doesn't care about winter championship meets so that isn't s driving factor either. It is a convenient location and schedule, we like the coaches, and the price works for us. So much negativity here.

Yes, so much negativity. It’s pretty disheartening that this is the focus of so many parents in the area.

It would be nice if people could view comments more constructively rather than constantly making unfounded accusations when the poster’s opinion differs from their own.

I want Hydra and T to succeed just to see the losers who vehemently oppose them crumble on here. Get a life people. I’ve got unlimited popcorn for this one.

Can’t wait until Hydra posts their meet schedule. Then the best argument against them will be gone.

Is it unfounded that Tuckahoe members pay less in fees at Hydra than everyone else?

The negativity focused on this particular team certainly isn't unfounded. Clubs offer discounts for all sorts of reasons that aren't available to everyone (returning swimmers, siblings, etc). If Hydra chose to give the hosting pool a slight discount on the registration fee for its members as part of its bid to secure space at that location, that seems like good business. Another weird one to focus on. Some folks are just looking for a reason to be angry.

This is a 10/10 on the whole cares meter. Someone else gets a slightly better deal than you. Who cares! You weren’t going to sign up for Hydra anyway because you have a bone to pick with T.

I hope that’s the case. There is discussion of discontinuing PVS opens so I hope he’s networking with clubs to get into invites. Especially since he can’t host any meets.

I can't believe there's no meet schedule yet and people are still forking over thousands of dollars.

The PVS 2025-2026 tentative calendar is out and there are Opens on there so they at least have those. I am also going to bet that most kids joining right now are younger or, like the PP, older kids who swim in the non competitive group for fun/to stay in shape and don't care about big meets. I can't image older competitive level kids switching without knowing they will be attending the more competitive meets because kids in those groups sure do not want to swim at PVS opens.

When do most clubs solidify their meet schedule? We do not see ours at registration and get it around August. We are with a bigger club that has established meets they host and swim every year so I am never concerned.

I think this is spot on. T&T are leveraging the former Tuckahoe swim program to provide the core base of kids and $ and im guessing the majority of these are 10U if not 12U. What happens down the road who knows.

I’m not angry but I’m also not willing to pay more for the same product. No other Club offers a discount to some kids and not to others.
