Tuckahoe Boots Machine

Curious - does anyone know how registration is going for Hydra? Are people making the switch?

This is such a bot post and I don’t buy that you are really a machine parent who is switching. Machine hasn’t even put out their new schedule yet so how do you know hydra is better? And with the excepting of afternoon practices for seniors the hydra schedule is pretty much the same as what Machine had.

So I'm the bot parent. As I said, the schedule is more convenient and allows for multiple sports. Yes, I'm specifically talking about senior swimming afternoons/evenings.

If not a bot then not that the Machine Chesterbrook schedule is out and includes a lot more senior afternoon options are you still switching?

Yes, we are still switching to Hydra. I was impressed with Machine's expanded offer for older kids in afternoons and evenings and can't help but wonder if it was to compete with Hydra. The Machine price tag of $3500 for two nights per week was definitely more than the Hydra price of $2100 for the same. I liked that there was a non-competitive option for just 1 night a week as well.

Glad there are more options for swimmers in the area.

Not totally apples to apple on pricing as Machine's program is a 1.5hr and Hydra's is 1 hr. So paying more and getting more. But, point taken that it works better for you and is what you want.

Should also add that Machine's fee ($3440) includes the registration fee. Hydras does not. Real cost of Hydra is $2500.

Based solely on conversations I have heard at meets I think Hydra will mostly be filled with Tuckahoe families and a small cohort of swimmers coming with the owner from York. This is just from chatter though so I can’t say how true it is. I just don’t know if a lot of people have the appetite to take a risk on a new Club.

Based on Hydra’s FB/IG posts, the first converts are all/almost all Tuckahoe people. As a non-Yorktown person, I just want to know if the HPP, CB, DR, etc kids are staying or going.

It’s a mix. Some are going, but not to Hydra.

Look at who is following the account on Instagram. That should tell you who is going with him. A lot of his younger swimmers are going with him. From various summer pools.

Laughing at how clearly this is NOT an actual parent. Conveniently not mentioning the other fees…. So obvious.

That post is some nice free advertising for sure! What it doesn’t include is that Hydra does not appear to have a meet schedule right now….

It does make sense for Tuckahoe swimmers since they don’t pay full price but as a non Tuckahoe parent the discount annoys me and makes me less likely to consider a switch.

Or not specifying what group levels they are referring too. Yes, clearly not someone who actually has children in sports and understands what we look at.

And the big thing I'd be looking at is where will my swimmer have a prelims/finals meet in December?

I get the annoyance. I want to offer, however, that our team practices out of a private swim and rec club. Because it is private, as a condition of joining the team, our swimmers must pay for a (discounted) membership. Because we already had a membership, we did not pay the fee, so it looks on paper like we are getting a reduced rate, when we really are probably paying a bit more than swimmers who only pay for one under 18 membership. I’m wondering if this is the case with Hydra/Tuckahoe.

I believe that Tuckahoe members who swam for Machine at Tuckahoe did not receive a discount. What is annoying is that Hydra is supposed to be a USA swim club that practices out of Tuckahoe so everyone should be paying the same fee. Clearly it is not its own entity.

If hydra is its own entity, that is a USA swim club simply renting space from a private club for its practices then in terms of discounts it should not matter which summer swim club you swim for. When it was run by machine there was not a discount for Tuckahoe members.
