Blatant antisemitism in Philly.

And, why??? Why “protest” like this in the US? What are they hoping to accomplish?

In case anyone is interested, there is an in depth article in the Guardian about the restaurant and the protest.

Several staff were fired over violating the dress code by wearing Palestinian flag pins/colors. Several staff members also disapproved of the fundraisers the restaurant held for a charity that supports the IDF as well as paying for dinners of people that were flying to Israel to serve in the IDF.

The server who was inside the restaurant at the time of the protest thought it was peaceful and not antisemitic.

They article doesn't change the fundamental conclusion: a Jewish restaurant owner was targeted because he's Jewish, serves falafel, and organized a fundraiser for an Israeli medical charity.

The protesters and servers come across as complete a**hats.

What are you talking about? It totally changes the conclusion. The restaurant wasn't targeted because of the owner's religion, it was targeted for its anti-Palistinian actions. And even the server who was inside the restaurant thought the protest was peaceful.

“Anti-Palestinian actions”? You mean donating to an Israeli medical charity?

Peaceful isn’t the issue. These protesters targeted the owner bc of his religion and the food he served and “charged [him] with genocide”.

This is no different than if pro Israeli protesters targeted Muslim owned restaurants.

It’s absolutely shameful conduct.

No, I mean firing people because they wore Palestine flag pins. That's discrimination. And the Israeli "charity" he donated to has killed thousands of Palestinian children.

What on earth are you talking about?

1. There was absolutely no discrimination. A uniform policy was enacted; the employees violated it. Separately, in a human level, wearing a Palestinian flag pin in front of your Jewish employer is a disgusting thing to do.

2. The charity has killed exactly no one.

This is like me publicly charging the local shawarma shop with being Hamas supporters just bc they’re Muslim and donate to MSF.

It’s outrageous and shameful.

Oh, btw, I’m a left-leaning Lutheran. This isn’t personal to me in any way except that I’m offended as an American and as a human being.

On a human level, it sounds like you regard Palestinians as sub-human.

I miss the good old days when certain Jewish posters would sign off as "Not even a Jew, by the way!"

I guess I'm just not ready for the "left-leaning Lutheran" and "environmentalist Episcopalian" subterfuge variants.

So it’s the sneaky Jews deceiving people?

Your bigotry is revolting.

You won't even acknowledge that Palestinians might have a cause to be upset at someone contributing to the mass killing of their people, and you called wearing a Palestinian flag pin "disgusting". Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to throw words like "bigotry" around.

Maybe the restaurant owner feels the same about Palestinians who support Hamas. Israel has the right to defend itself against terrorists. Maybe you should check your one-sided assumptions and, yes, bigotry.

So? They weren't supporting Hamas, so what's your point? Everyone has the right to defend themselves against terrorists, but that doesn't make the indiscriminate bombing and killing ok, unless you view the Palestinians as subhumans.

Killing civilians in a planned genocide is not the right to defend itself. The restaurant owner has already shown their hatred for Palestinians by supporting the IDF.

This is awful: https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-12-10/arrest-made-in-the-antisemitic-assault-of-an-elderly-man-in-beverly-hills

I knew their son many years ago and never would have imagined then that this is our life now as Jews in America. If I remember correctly, Mrs. Nissel's parents were Holocaust survivors.

You mean like Hamas did on October 7? Killing and raping and abducting civilians?

The shtreimel theft doesn't look like a hate crime, just your usual robbery.

Yes.
Things AND speech can be symbols. The "oh that is not what I meant, it is your imagination" show is a farce.

If a man were attacked for wearing the usual Palestinian symbol would you say that?

The Jewish community has condemned the two horrific hate crimes against Arabs that have happened in the US since Hamas terrorists brutally attacked Israel. Neither attack was committed by Jews. But you know all that. And are still attempting to claim false equivalencies.

A shtreimel is not a symbol. It is a big, expensive, warm looking fur hat, easy to snag off someone's head.
