Can't afford homes in the higher end hoods like Madison or Mclean. Not even Marshall. Would prefer to stay eastern part of the county. Was thinking Lee? Edison? Annandale? FC? I would rather not go out as far as west Springfield. Budget is 550k. Tell me quick if I have no good options.

| Could you rent in district for those until your kid graduated and then buy somewhere more affordable? |
| 550k gets a townhouse in those higher end districts. But in the right pyramid and you'll be more likely to see ROI |
| Pimmit Hills |
| Edison or FC. The revitalization of Merrifield will probably help FC. |
| If West Springfield is off the table what about Lake Braddock or Robinson? |
Any of these three schools is very strong and you can get a SFH for that amount in those areas. Could you try out the drive and see if it would work for you? |
| You're asking advice in the wrong place if you want a real world answer. People here are incapable of getting past greatschools ratings and FARM/ESL statistics. The reality is that your children can do fine in just about any school in Fairfax County. There are opportunities for children of all levels at every school. Find a home that will work for you, check out the schools personally to see what you think, and don't read too many posts on this forum. |
Check out homes in Falls Church zoned for Timber Lane/Longfellow/McLean. |
+1 people here thing McLean and Langley are the only schools worth sending your kids to and you should rent a tiny one bedroom apartment in order to send your kids there rather than buy a smaller house or worse, let your kids go to school with an ~immigrant~. There are some shitty schools, yes, but there are others that are decent even if they aren't rich and a GS 10. Do your due diligence and honestly, try to find people to talk to in some of the neighborhoods in question and see how they like their schools and neighborhoods. |
I couldn't agree more with the above. |
| You could buy in Fairfax HS easily for that budget. |

Great schools/ school digger/ us news and world report/ wash post index
All of the above can seriously go fuck themselves. People around here were very pleased with the quality of education their children were receiving until all that shit got started. |

The obvious place to look would be in the Woodson HS area. It's not much further out than much of the Madison district.
Of other close-in areas, I've seen some positive feedback lately on Edison, Falls Church and Stuart, compared to unhappiness with Lee and angst over redistrictings that have moved many single-family neighborhoods out of Annandale. |
Nothing on the market there now, but houses in the Dunn Loring Woods neighborhood that feeds into Marshall often are in your price range. |
