There are houses under $550 zoned for those schools. Are Hunt Valley and Orange Hunt not on your list? Not much separates them from RVES and WSES. |
Add Hunt Valley and Orange Hunt to your list. |
I agree. A big chunk of the Rolling Valley neighborhood feeds into HVES. All the houses around Rolling Valley Swim and Tennis go to HVES. The houses are the same models as the ones on the other side of Pohick Valley Stream Park. It will expand the availability of homes. |
we have very specific reasoning for the two areas we are searching. these two school zones don't fit it, even though I know they are quite good. again, we already have a decent house and we will only move if the exact right opportunity pops up. we don't want a smaller house and less renovated house than the one we already have. The houses we have seen in these 2 school zones under $550K were in terrible shape and definitely NOT worth a move. we are also looking in another area of fairfax county. we need to be quite close to I-95. |
Understood. We had no way of knowing what your current house is like. The houses I see don't look like they are in terrible shape, but I guess it could be in the eye of the beholder. Good luck in your search. |
| OP here again, thanks for everyone's input. Edison, FC and Fairfax look promising. Does anyone have information about the schools personally? My two specific questions are: do the teachers like their jobs; are the classrooms in theses schools orderly? Not interested in aap or immersion or ib programs. Just good teaching and respectful kids. This will be a second house for us, so if we don't find anything we can wait. Our kids are still small. |
Wait are you OP? |
FCPS schools have either AP or IB. If you opt for one program that is not in your district, there is no transportation. I don't see why this wouldn't be part of your decision. Seems short sighted unless you plan to move again. |
Wait, is this OP?? This sounds like a different poster... |
I think this is a different poster. She posts here often about moving to the WSHS pyramid and absolutely does not want an AAP school due to a bad experience at her current center school. Not sure what would rule out HV or OH though. They are excellent schools and traffic/commute wise Sydenstriker is a much easier road than Rolling Road. |
No. I was the one who said west Springfield under $550k for a sfh isn't easy. Op doesn't want west Springfield. |

It's...SchoolDigger Dude! No brains to speak of, but has advanced cut-and-paste skills. |
| Why not Woodson? Communities close to beltway and in the 500s is doable. There are some really nice neighborhoods between little River and Braddock road. |
