How much exercise does your very active DS get each week?

And how do you know it's enough? Do you sign him up for multiple sports each season? Take him to the playground every day? How many does a week does he do an organized sports activity?

Depends on the season. DS plays travel soccer and runs track. Plays soccer 3x /week and 5-6x/week. Sometimes long runs (6-7 miles), sometimes sprint training. More than enough exercise.

This also depends on age and your child. DD just turned 7. She swims twice a week, has gymnastics 6 hours a week, plays 90 minutes of field hockey, has 1 soccer lesson, and 1 golf lesson. Some would say this is too much, but she wants to do all these. She also wants to increase gymnastics to 9 hours a week (while we are hoping she gives it up all together).

How old? Remember this is feb. so the worst time if year for active or outdoorsy kids.

I still wouldn't do more than 1-2 activities a week with an elementary school aged child.

In the winter, my 9-year-old (will turn 10 next month!) DS has rec basketball (1x practice, 1x game at 1 hour each), swimming lesson (1x at 1 hour), tennis lesson (1x at 2 hours), and soccer (2x at 1 hour each). He also usually comes home from school and plays a bit (an hour or so) of soccer in the backyard with friends. He also does strength training with his dad twice a week... probably about 30 min of it including warm-up and stretching. It is a very busy schedule, but he asks for it. He is not great at entertaining himself at home for long hours (without a screen, of course!) and this helps with the minimizing of screentime.

I get my 9 year old son out every day for at least an hour, hiking, playground, biking, swimming. 3-4 hours on weekends. Except during the dead of winter like now. I focus more on free play in the house. Action figures, nerf guns, wrestling. This is his least active time.

Just one sport, fencing, which is a moderate work out but only for an hour a week.

My son needs free unstructured time more than anything. So I don't schedule lots of sports.

Not enough. I know his because at the end of the day he is still full of energy.

DS is 5 and in private K. They have recess 2x/day and PE 3x/week in addition to the double recess. After school he has free play in after care-- could be outside or in the gym. Then he has after school activities. M/H he has swim team for an hour. Tues is basketball for 45 min and Wed is soccer for 45 min. Friday he has parkour for an hour.

Today he will be outside for most of the day. He will shovel the neighbors walks. It's a good snow for exercise because he can manage the shoveling.

Truly I'm at a loss as to what to do with him. I'm exhausting just listing all the exercise that he gets and yet I know it's not enough. We also have a trampoline that he jumps on after dinner if he needs to burn off more energy.

DS is 6, very active, very hyper.

He has ski school one weekend day every week until March, from 9-3 at a PA resort.
He has a basketball clinic 1 hour a week
He's in an after school soccer club 1 hour a week
Other than that, he plays outside riding his bike, playing soccer, playing basketball or running around around 2 hours a day, regardless of how cold it is. I don't push him to go, he just goes.

He severely limit screen time, because for whatever reason watching too much tv or looking at a computer makes him more hyper and somewhat aggressive. So no iPad or computer. If not a school day he can watch 1 hour of tv (like pbs odd squad or something similar on Netflix)

Two boys: almost 8 and 10.

Really active soccer practices 2-3 times a week 90 min long.

Basketball and soccer games. We take them to park for a few hours where they run like mad: football, soccer, tag, etc
After playing a full 60 min indoor soccer game yesterday (seriously sweaty)--he was outside ar the park running around for a good 3 hours.

I don't count in the school giving them much activity since recess is so short and PE is just twice per week--so they do something physically active every afternoon. If it's not organized--they go to park or out back.

DH and I are very athletic. It's a lifestyle thing with our family.

Outings and vacations always include some type of physical activity.
