Vanessa Redgrave isn't a good actress. I never understood why people thought she and her daughter (Natasha Richardson) were beautiful or talented. So sue me.

Super rich, famous, sleeping with any 10 he wants, access to the best drugs, and now past his creative prime (31 years old). Many such cases. For 50 plus years a musician's creative peak is late teens to mid/late 20s.

NP. Wow. Glad I don't know you. What an incredibly narrow view of "prime" you seem to have.
Not referring to the Weeknd but to the huge, gross generalization in bold.

It's true. Look it up, any artist. Maybe you'll find an outlier here and there but on the whole, it's accurate time and time again. Just as an example:

How old was Phil Collins when he wrote and record "In The Air Tonight"? 29-yo.

50 Cent when he recorded his top album "Get Rich or Die Trying"? 25-yo.

Eminem when he recorded 8 Mile soundtrack? 27-yo.

Taylor Swift's top 2 selling albums? 20-yo and 25-yo.

I've never heard a Taylor Swift song and I'm not a big fan of rap.
I'm more of a Leonard Cohen type of woman and he was creating brilliant music into his eighties.

I have never read a post on DCUM that so clearly stated "i'm an old fogey' at heart if not in years, than this one

Why, because I don’t like American pop and rap?
I’m sorry you’re trashy.

No lol. Because saying something vaguely like 'what the kids listen to is trash and I listen to the good old stuff' is basically the definition of being an old fogey. And that is your post but you seem to be saying it with no self awareness. Like admitting you have never even HEARD a Taylor Swift song is basically admitting you have zero actual knowledge of current music from the last decade or so.

- Someone who likes T-swift, doesn't really like rap, and enjoys Leonard Cohen

I said nothing of the sort. I took issue with the assertion that musicians hit their peak in their teens or early twenties.
I like plenty of current music. And no, I'm not familiar with Taylor Swift. I'm not American. There is a whole world of music out there.

You called me trashy! PP cited a few musicians who peaked in their 20s and said that there were outliers and but that this was a trend, and for the most part I personally think they are right. You responded saying you had never heard a single song of one of the arguably famous musicians on the planet (on an american message board while speaking english) and cited your love for a dead octogenarian's music.

You will sound old if you say you haven't heard a single song of a global superstar and say instead that you listen to Leonard Cohen. I didn't even say he was bad or anything (he's not!) just that you sounded old. And I feel like saying you don't know current artists but love Leonard Cohen is in the dictionary next to 'how to sound old'

You sound age-obsessed. FWIW, Leonard Cohen is very popular among younger people where I live.
I know a lot of current artists, just not Taylor Swift. I don't tend to listen to pop.

Yes. Times 100 I will add!

agreed.

Doubly agreed. I remember seeing a video preview of Hamilton, when LMM performed a snippet at the WH. It was cringe-inducing then, too.

I have to ask where you live based on this. What current artists do you enjoy?

Tom hanks in general is boring as hell. I don’t think he is especially talented- yet he gets cast as the middle aged/old white guy time and time again . Really- they can’t come up with any other actor to play this type of character?
He cannot and never will be Mr Rogers. However there are two things that I’ll admit to liking -1 at the end of Captain Phillips, when he breaks down after it’s all over - that was serious acting - it made me cry and 2- his portrayal of an old white Trumpster on Black Jeopardy on SNL… when all the black people are agreeing with his answers- that was just hilarious. Probably should give more props to whoever wrote that skit. Everything else he does is meh. He was not anything special in Saving Private Ryan.

I think Hamilton is wonderful. My issue is that Lin-Manuel Miranda is not a good actor. He's great at conceptualizing an idea, but I wish he would leave the acting to the professionals.

They had friends who lived in my building, so I had some exposure to both of them. Very nice people. Very down-to-earth. I think she's a good actress and so was her daughter.

Also love Tom Cruise. Not sure the right person won the Oscar in Rainman.
The end of Caitlin philips also made me cry. The second movie I cried at.
First was sisterhood of the traveling pants. So sue me.

Duh, that's why it's an "Unpopular Entertainment Opinion."

Tom Hanks is a great actor. From his early comedic actor days in Bosom Buddies, Bachelor Party, Splash, and Big to his serious roles in Philadelphia, Saving Private Ryan, Sully, and Captain Phillips, and his roles where he simply IS the movie like Castaway and Forrest Gump - he’s shown an incredible range and ability to draw people in and believe what he’s portraying. Great actor. Heck, even his voice work in Toy Story was great. So I’ll have to disagree respectfully.
